You can probably get some clear, wavy plastic card somewhere to cut and insert in the Stargate. I know I have seen that sort of thing before at home improvement or hobby stores.

This is how we did all the Egyptian terrain;

Base color is a sprayed flat brown, I dont recall the brand.

Then a heavy drybrush of Americana brand Desert Sand [craft paint from Hobby Lobby]

Lastly, a light drybrush of Americana Bleached Sand

The two Americana sand colors are super useful for many things.
