Hello fellow TMP'ers!

I've started to see some local folks here do some excellent work with airbrushes. I've been curious to try learning to use one for some time now, but I think I'm finally ready to invest in one.

Time to learn a new skill!

I'm looking for recommendations for a brand name/model that's a good start – not bottom of the barrel, but I probably don't need a top of the line model, either.

Can you suggest a good place to start/purchase one, maybe even some YouTube videos (or DVD's) that show the basics of miniature painting with an airbrush?

I should mention that I am an absolute NOVICE here, I don't know where to start or what I need to begin working with this, so I'll need some sort of complete kit to start. I think.

Thanks very much!

Go here. tcpglobal.com

Get one of their generic models and a compressor. Don't waste your money on brand names unless you plan to become Da Vinci.

Get a compressor with a tank.

Get yourself one of these Alex. auction Trust me, it's a good compressor and those cheap airbrushes ( that you will abuse) will allow you to make all your mistakes at no cost. If you still fancy airbrushing then go buy yourself something like this auction or this auction Both great general purpose Airbrushes.

One thing to consider is whether you will ever want an air compressor for something other than airbrushing, i.e. having one in your garage for inflating things or running a nail gun.

I'm about to replace my old compressor after 25 years. I'm buying this instead of a dedicated hobby compressor.

It turned out that I used my old compressor for household stuff far more than I ever used it to airbrush with. I airbrush in the garage anyway, and as long as you are not in an apartment, a regular oil lubricant compressor just isn't that loud any more.

One other thing – go ahead and get a double-action airbrush instead of a single-action. Yes, they are more, but not that much more.

Aztek A4709 set, and a general purpose (tool) compressor (with moisture trap).
