"On my various bike tours to Denmark, I now have 6 times the Düppeler Hill, in Denmark known as Dybbøl Banke, climbed. For the last time I had now finally the time on the hilltop to visit the museum. The museum building, and the grounds are modeled on a large hill. It represents one of the 10 jumps is that were created there in 1864 to stop the attacking Prussian army The German-Danish war, was not the historical side note, as it is perhaps felt today. In this military conflict over Schleswig-Holstein and especially to the Duchy of Schleswig between the Empire of Austria and the Kingdom of Prussia on the one side and the Kingdom of Denmark on the other, it was the prelude to the German unification. After the victory over Denmark, the dispute over the administration of Schleswig and Holstein after the end of the German-Danish war as a pretext for war following the German (also known as Austro-Prussian war known) was taken. The positive outcome of this conflict for the Prussians finally called France on the scene, from which the basis for the German-French War 1870/71 was laid. Not for nothing was the saying "Without chaff no Hradec Kralove, Hradec Kralove without no Sedan, Sedan without no German Empire

As a Schleswig-Holstein transplant living in Nebraska,I concur the 1864 series looks great.Idstedt Musuem is also nice to visit.Alot of the old Schleswig manor houses had to have main doorways only 5 and a half feet high give or take, and facing towards Copenhagen,so that in essence you were always bowing towards your Danish masters. |
