Given the popularity of WW II and especially with 28 mm getting a whole lot of love in terms of models because of Warlord Games is there a demand for well painted squads and platoons for WW II? If so who are the most popular and high demand forces? I would assume German units but I could be wrong. |

Demand would be partially based on quality and cost. I paint my own figures but have spoken with many pro painters, mostly because I love talking about painting miniatures. I have noticed that a lot of folks out there want Germans in complex camo for dirt cheap. |

Ww2 is pretty easy to paint except for FJ and other fancy German camo. Even then I don't see them fetching stellar prices. |

That's the thing, everyone wants pea dot and splinter camo Germans for next to nothing. I think folks in the hobby forget that is has been 15 to 20 years since a really nice paint job on 28mm was 5 – 7 USD. I think any of the para figures for Germany, Britain, or the US would be a good bet. Granted they are more difficult to paint, but the end result looks very nice on the table. Also, they all fought in Normandy so they fit in with what I see people playing. There is a company that sells pre-painted WW2 Stuff. Here is their link. They will be at Historicon link They are selling a figure for around 9 USD. I am sure they are getting overseas labor. I think 10 USD for a complex paint job like paratroops ( mainly British or German ) is not out of range. Matthew |

Interesting as I would agree with 45thdiv that a complex paint job, i.e., German Camo would fetch a good price per figure. |

I found it a great waste of time |

I will spend 10-15 bucks a figure if the painting quality is worth it. I have all the FJ I need and I don't game SS so my only weakness is winter troops. |

I sell pre-painted Perry WW2 figures at a very competitive price but they are not in demand. I think I only sold 4 or 5 platoons since I started that range 6 months ago. I was considering adding Bolt Action figures and painted vehicles to my range but considering the expected little return on my investment that is not going to happen. I rather focus on the ranges that do sell well such as AWI and Napoleonics. Fons mmps.asia |

You sell more AWI figures than WWII figures? That is surprising to me. |

Don't commit too much time and effort. Prices are down. They are a hard sell. I sell about a platoon a month. They are about a clean 7 and sell around $7 USD each Simpler uniforms are $6 USD, sometimes $5. USD I make a profit and guys save time. I have had them for years. Soon will have Americans and Finns. Sold all my DAK, 8th Army, Russians and French but it took me a couple of years. |

Painting is definitely not a profit center. Wargamers are too damn cheap. Any time I see someone trawling well painted figures on ebay for $8 USD+ each they are usually out there for quite a while. It seems to me that prices have frozen at 2003 levels. |

"You sell more AWI figures than WWII figures? That is surprising to me." Yes, AWI is my best selling range ever since the Perry's came out with their Continentals. And it will probably even get better as soon as the Wargames Factory Militia becomes available.:-) Fons mmps.asia |
