Starting to work on the artillery for my AWI armies and wondered how everyone does it. I plan to use either Guns of Liberty or Carnage and Glory rules, but not set in stone. I am thinking that I will base the figures on a base and leave the gun unbased-any thoughts or pictures would be great. Thanks lads. |

I have loose guns and gunners on individual bases. Many rules have different number of gunners depending on the weight. This makes it easy and allows for casualty removal. |

I always leave guns loose. I tend to mount the gunners to the bases. |

I'm useing magnetic bases on all single figs. Planning on useing individual art.figs. on a rubber\steel base. I can then change the figs depending on rules etc.Guns un attached. I'm doing the same for my battalions of Inf. |

I use foam core for my bases. Guns go on small steel bases and I embed a piece of magnetic strip into the base. Gunners are glued directly to the base. That way I van switch out Guns as needed. |

I use limbers. That is why I do not glue the guns to bases. |

Limbers are too far down on the priority list at the moment. |

A base with the gunners glued to them, a loose gun and a limber, so I can limber and unlimber my guns. BP does not require casualty removal or a specific number of gunners. |

I usually leave guns loose and mount gunners to the base. It allows the guns to remain if the crews have abandoned them or been wiped out. Limbers are used to depict batteries in transit. If the limber is on the board then the gun and figures are removed. |

I use Guns of liberty. I use bases in the sizes spelled out in the riles. The gun is not based. I base 2 artillerymen figures per base to represent two guns per the rules. There is a space between them for the trail of the guns. Thus 2 stands make up a battery of 4 guns. I have a seperate stand with the horse and limber and then also have one stand per battery for an ammo cart. |

I glue my guns down. All my units have a 2" width for the base. 4" deep for the artillery. I mount 4 crew to the base, they come with the gun and I just have not liked guns with two figures for crew. For me it is a more visual thing. Most rules I play work fine since I provide both sides and all the basing is the same. I am using 28mm figures. Matthew |

I use ameoba like cut offs of thin MDF. I sand the edges down and glue evertything to the base. Terrain the base and I am finished. East to move, easy to set up and easy to put away. |

Grossman, FYI, I have run (and played in) 25mm AWI games with Carnage and Glory for years. My artillery is 3-4 figures per base with the guns loose. It works fine. If the battery is overrun, you can pick up the figures and still leave the gun in place. You don't really need limbers for AWI games. Like you, I have yet to have mine painted up, but they are on the painting schedule. If you are going to Historicon, there is at least one Carnage and Glory AWI game on the schedule. Check the PEL at the Historicon web page for details. You can also go to the Carnage and Glory web page to see some pictures and AARs. Hope to see you there. |

I like limbers. In AWI they don't take up much room at all and look nice. I got mine from fife and drum. |

I put 1 gun and crew (4 figures) on a base of 60mm x 70mm. That's the recommended basing size in the "British Grenadier!" rules that I use. I find this base size can sometimes be too small for some gun crew packs, such as the Perry packs of figures aiming and loading guns – you need a bit of extra depth to enable the figures to be positioned properly around the cannon. I just base any figures that need more space separately on pennies. You asked for some pictures, which can be found on this link: link Giles |

Dang Giles, you have got a great collection. |

I mount four figures to the base and leave the gun loose. So if the crew routs or become casualties the gun stays. Limbers are the last thing I will do. But I will have some. |

Two, four, six or eight gun crew fixed to the base, guns separate some can be towed by a limber. Cheers Matt |
