I don't play Napoleonic's that often but Gary Kitching's excellent games are beginning to convert me. This weekend past we played Ligny with a result that was very close to the original except that Blucher was killed rather than wounded.

The earlier Quatre Bras game will be featured in the next Miniature Wargames but in the meantime some preview pics are also on my blog at

Great looking table and game.
How did you make the hills? Cloth over sculpted foam?

NICE!

Fantastic looking game. I too would like to know how you made the hills and also what rules you used.

It looks like a Peter Gilder type game from years ago.

How did you do a long table, should it not be a kind of L shape?

Yes indeed – flocked cloth over foam. Eminently flexible!

How did you do a long table, should it not be a kind of L shape?

Our first set up was L shaped but then Gary realised that by distorting the brook somewhat it would be possible on a long straight table which made playing easier. We did a similar thing with Blenheim last year.

The rules were Gary's 'Vive l'Empereur'

@smacdowall,
Can you give a short synapse of the Gary's rules. Would they be on the lines of V & B?
It looked like the Inf stand = battalion or regiment and cav stand = cav squadron?
How long did it take to get to a resolution?
Just Curious…

Yes it is at a grand scale with one battalion on a stand with a brigade as the basic unit. We took our time over the game with a good break for lunch and to take photos, starting at 10 am and playing 12 turns by the time it was well and truly over around 5 pm
