I am rather new to 28mm WWII. Looking for recommendations on a good set of rules which utilizes a ratio of 1 figure equals one soldier on a standard TOE. Realism of play/feel is very important. Also, I would like to have plenty of TOE choices/force organizations which covers variety of periods. I am late to the game, so to speak, but really enjoying all the new options and choices of figures and vehicles out there for this scale. Thanks for your help. |

Depending on what kind of game you want, you might want to look at WWII RPGs – for instance, GURPS with the appropriate supplements. |

Chain of Command, certainly, but also Nuts! which has just had a new edition. The Battlegroup series are also 1:1 but you'd probably want to fiddle with the ranges with 28mm. |

There is also Normandy Firefight
Done for 54mm but works with 28mm. |

Chain of Command; by far the best WWII skirmish set I've played in 45 years of gaming. |

We switched to Battlegroup a few month ago and are playing in 28mm as well, so far we have not felt any need to fiddle with the ranges. |

Oh and we really, really love the rules! |

Chain of Command is a hot item now. But I am a die hard Battleground WWII player. I've been using these rules for years. link Duane |

Can I suggest that you decide what size game you want to play. Do you want to command a squad or section, a platoon or a company? There are lots of suggestions here, but there are a real variety of different size games being recommended. decide which is for you and then you are half way there. Good luck with your search. Rich |

Also, I would like to have plenty of TOE choices/force organizations which covers variety of periods. Chain of Command doesn't meet these requirements unless there's some supplemental info online or an add on to the rulebook (neither of which i've looked for). there are 2 or 3 platoon choices for each of the big 4 nations but no minor nations or specific time periods. having said that i'll add that CoC is an excellent game and is fast replacing Bolt Action as our club's choice for WWII skirmish games. |

We certainly do have an expanding range of lists for Chain of Command on the TooFatLardies Forum. We wanted to make these free rather than publish endless expansions which cost a fortune. The WWII stuff is here: link Largely early war thus far, but the Japanese list for 1941 is being released tomorrow and we had the full Chindit lists in the Summer Special. We'll be releasing many more as free downloads as we go forward. The Spanish Civil War has its own set of Chain of Command lists here: link |

The Battlegroup series are also 1:1 but you'd probably want to fiddle with the ranges with 28mm. BG ranges are roughly 1"=10 yards, which may look a bit cramped for 28mm minis. I believe that there is a WW2 version of Ambush Alley rules in the works, there were conversion notes in the original Force on Force book. |

Men Under Fire is another option, especially if you are looking to stage platoon or company sized games. See: link

If you'd like something that is man to man, has a lot of RPG feel and let's you follow a squad that improves with each mission, check out my game link If you want platoon level battles with tanks and a really wicked, dice based command system, I'd suggest Chain of Command. It really is quite excellent. |

Wow. Thanks for all of the responses. Seems like an overwhelming endorsement for C of C. Why aren't the Bolt Action/Warlord Games rules catching on? One would think so with all of the figures and vehicles that they are putting out

They are ccmatty, they are. Just check any number of other threads. I have not played CofC. I own & play BA. I (we, about 8 of us) really, really enjoy them. That said, we use TFL "Mud & Blood" for WW1, best WW1 set I've ever played. We also play "TFL Algy" for our WW1 air games. Rich told me CofC is more in the M&B vein, & judging by many, many comments here & elsewhere I know it's gotta be a damn fine game. But having never played any Warhammer or Sci-Fi games in my life (way too old, there weren't any back then & I wouldn't had any interest then either) I am immune to any of the venom spewed it's way by those who have. We find the point system (fangs gash!) pretty damn helpful & fun. We really like the special rules for certain units a lot also (serpentine's back to keyboard). A bunch of things some people complain about are some of the same things we enjoy (I've been hit! Morphine!!! Morphine!!!!). I wanna & will play CofC but that wont make me quit playing BA, I would play both. Just MHO. Peter |

Battleground WW2 The Face of Battle Final Combat All come with lots of chrome but are very playable rules that cover man-to-man combat in WW2. After all, its not just any rule set has nahverteidigungswaffe in them. |

Chain of Command for me, but I also play a lot if Bolt Action. CoC is a deeper game (oh myyyy) with much more emphasis on leadership. BA is a fun game, but the limited weapon ranges at the represented scale are a bit hard to accept. |

If you want 1:1 everything then Final Combat or its 1:1 platoon-company based version Micro Melee. However most people quickly find when a 28mm 1:1 mortar round lands on the table that actually they don't want proper ratios anyway :) |

CoC have LOADS of TOEs Step one – find any historic OOB Step two – Use that. |
