GW needs them far more than they need GW. |

Big loss for them if it's true |
Capt John Miller | 29 Jun 2014 6:59 a.m. PST |
The Perrys will find other opportunities to be sure. They have the gravitas/street cred if you will. I am not worried for them. |
45thdiv | 29 Jun 2014 6:59 a.m. PST |
A link to the news would be nice if someone could add it. |
John the OFM | 29 Jun 2014 7:08 a.m. PST |
How can they make a Washington Crossing the Delaware set if they are chained to the workbench making Elder Eldar Moon Swallows? It's not as if they would be out in the streets. |
Zargon | 29 Jun 2014 7:38 a.m. PST |
If true, bring out balloons and cake, yahoo! |
Dr Mathias | 29 Jun 2014 7:40 a.m. PST |
Considering their already prolific output I suspect we will see an explosion of releases from them. |
kallman | 29 Jun 2014 8:17 a.m. PST |
Yes a link would be good. Not sure if this really is big gaming news, if true. The Perry's have their own business that is doing rather well I would think and depending on what kind of deal they have with GW and for that matter Foundry perhaps they get some kind of royalty kick back. However I doubt that as most miniature sculpting work is considered work for hire I believe. Regardless the entire thing just smells funny. |
Pizzagrenadier | 29 Jun 2014 8:54 a.m. PST |
I thought the Perry's left GW a long time ago. |
Dave Jackson | 29 Jun 2014 9:08 a.m. PST |
No, they've been doing the LOTR ranges |
JezEger | 29 Jun 2014 9:08 a.m. PST |
No they left foundry because foundry started making fantasy figs iirc. There was some kind of non compete clause with GW. |
James Wright | 29 Jun 2014 9:22 a.m. PST |
Heh, I am with Iron Ivan. The news to me here is that they still were *with* GW. For some reason I had it in my head that they left years and years ago. Did they leave for a bit and return? The Perrys are probably the best in the business. They can release their own lines, which they have been doing obviously, and do just fine. I think this could be great for us, historical gamers. They seem attracted to the historical fields themselves, and now without having to do GWs bidding, we get more work. =) |
Pizzagrenadier | 29 Jun 2014 9:33 a.m. PST |
Oh yeah, I forgot about the LOTR ranges. I didn't know they worked for GW for that but figured they were contracted. |
Henrix | 29 Jun 2014 10:53 a.m. PST |
If that means they'll start doing their own fantasy miniatures I'm all for it! Hey, wait, I'm all for them doing whatever they want – it always turn out great. |
Intrepide | 29 Jun 2014 11:03 a.m. PST |
GW is really stuttering. I'm not surprised. They have set themselves into a tailspin of raising prices to make up for declining sales which then decline further due to the price increases. There are some very interesting threads on Warseer and Dakka Dakka about GW's present struggles. If true, it is not the talented Perrys who are in trouble here. |
Intrepide | 29 Jun 2014 11:44 a.m. PST |
OP – link? Perhaps it is my lackluster internet search skills, but I could not find any mention of this. |
BelgianRay | 29 Jun 2014 12:52 p.m. PST |
If this is true, and they start working full time on theyr own projects, I'd better start buying lots of lottery tickests and hiring peolple for painting mini's, at the rate they work

Considering the high quality sculpts that they are producing and the products in their pipeline that I can't live without, I think the Perrys will be fine. And if it means that we get stuff from them quicker so much the better for us in the historical gaming community as well. On the selfish side since I am not a LOTR guy I would dearly love to see more plastic ACW and AWI as well as HYW as well as WW2. Imagine a Perrys' Iron Brigade or Napoleonic British Marines and landing party set? The mind boggles. |

I think, judging by the discussion on the forum, is that the info on the Perry Brothers is In this video, but it requires a paid subscription
no thanks: link |

If true, it won't affect GW's bottom line in the slightest. There are plenty of good sculptors out there, and I'm sure plenty would fall all over themselves for the steady paycheck. Who knows? Might even get some new ideas there. (Gasp!) And if true, then the Perry's are doing fine and can continue with their other, non-GW, lines. So it's win-win. |

Good for the Perrys, more time for historical minis. |
Pete Melvin | 30 Jun 2014 2:48 a.m. PST |
I doubt it will have any effect on either the Perry's or GW. GW will always have people clamouring to work for them, we don't live in such a huge industry that you can just turn down steady work. And the Perrys are big fish in a small pond, they will always get work. I always assumed that the Perrys just did contract work for GW these days, shows what I know. |
JezEger | 30 Jun 2014 5:15 a.m. PST |
The other thing to bear in mind is that GW are now virtually all digital sculpting. The Perry's are traditional sculpters. Could be that the amount of traditional sculpting planned no longer justifies their paycheck, or maybe they need to learn cad sculpting to be still useful to the company. Either way, if it gives them more time to devote to historical ranges, we should all be happy. I don't see it as more proof of GW's decline. When you have a brand like GW, individual sculpting style is less important. Sculpters have to conform to the brand. McDonald's have no use for Jamie Oliver for example, doesn't make McDonald's less popular. |

Just in from their Facebook feed We are aware that there are rumours flying around that we have left Games Workshop! Thought we should set the record straight and let you all know that
we have! After 36 years, man and boy, working on Warhammer, 40K and of course, for the last 15 years LotR and the Hobbit we are now able to focus our energy on our historical ranges. This means more time to dedicate to Perry Miniatures, and of course Mr Jackson who we continue to make 54mm WW1 figures for. We had an excellent evening on Friday at The Trip to Jerusalem with GW, and ex-GW, colleagues and friends who got us very, very drunk – cheers! |
Dawnbringer | 30 Jun 2014 7:10 p.m. PST |
I figure it means the end of the Lotr/Hobbit ranges, as I think that was all they were doing for GW these days anyhow. They would have done the sculpting for the last movies release by now. |
