"Damascus tells Israel that troops who fired missile across the border on Sunday, killing Israeli boy, mistook Israeli truck for rebel vehicle Almost the entire Syrian side of the Golan Heights is now under the control of rebel forces, including radical Islamist groups, a senior Israeli military commander in the area said Friday. Only the Quneitra border area is still in the hands of forces loyal to President Bashar Assad, Lt.-Col. Anan Abbas, deputy commander of the Golan Brigade, told Israel's Channel 10. About 95 percent of the Syrian side of the Golan is in the hands of anti-Assad rebels, including radical Islamic groups such as the Al-Nusra Front, affiliated with al-Qaeda, a rival of the burgeoning Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, better known as ISIL or ISIS

Shortly I would think assuming that it is ISIS on the border. |
morrigan | 28 Jun 2014 6:39 p.m. PST |
Maybe ISIS will finally come up against an army that is willing and able to fight. |

I find it amusing that the IDF and Hezbollah could be allies of convenience. |

I once asked a Bulgarian friend of mine how his country and Turkey had managed to ally in WWI, in spite of the long history of violence and mistrust between them. "We were never allies." he told me. "We fought on the same side in that war, but we were never allies." You could say the same thing for Hungary and Rumania in WWII. The German high command always made sure that these 'allied' troops were separated on the front from one another by Germans or Italians, so they didn't fall to fighting with each other. Hezballah and the Izzies may both shoot in the same direction for some good reason, but they will never be allies of any kind. |

Regardless of who is allied with who
The IDF should be a force in the region very much capable of dealing with ISIS types
So you already have the Iraqis, Iranians and Syrians trying to fight ISIS. The Turks may get involved on their border. The IDF probably won't stand for the ISIS on the Golan
So we will see
but no matter ISIS needs to be removed
one way or another. I'd like to see the Turks go full tilt and roll across the border into Iraq in full strength. To cleanse the world of ISIS
But there is a lot of geo-political concerns involved with such a move

Funny last I heard was the Syrians were clearing the border of rebels. Now all of a sudden there is ISIS? Sounds like an excuse by the IDF to clear the heights. |
zippyfusenet | 29 Jun 2014 11:45 a.m. PST |
Um, the Izzies have had the Heights since 1967. Lost them briefly in 1973 but got them back. The ISIS is shooting *up* at the border. |
Legion 4 | 29 Jun 2014 2:39 p.m. PST |
Yes
and the IDF probably won't like ISIS shooting at the Golan on their border
And after both '67 and '73, the Israelis won't be giving any of that area up

Israel and ISIS are not archenemies like, for example, Hamas or Hizbollah and Israel, or even Israel and Bashar al-Assad's regime. Certainly, ISIS hates Israel but to the same extent they hate all unbelievers. By that token, as long as ISIS is conveniently taking out those who are a much greater threat to Israel (i.e., the Iranian-backed Assad regime), Israel has every disincentive to get involved. Unless directly attacked, it's much more in Israel's interest to let ISIS and its enemies across the border destroy each other. |

Certainly, ISIS hates Israel but to the same extent they hate all unbelievers. You're mistaken. Re-read your Quran and Hadith. Jews are always 'special' to Muslims. The worst insult they can call each other is 'Jew', and they use it constantly. Remember those photos of Mubarek and Qadaffi with six-pointed stars scrawled over their faces? They have them for Assad too, and of course he claims The Jooze are behind the rebels. There's a Muslim proverb you may have heard, "First comes Saturday, then comes Sunday.", i.e. first defeat the Jews, then the Christians. I wonder whether anyone today has the vision and nerve to follow that old bastard Begin's advice from the first Iraq-Iran War: "You wish they could both lose. "When the Iranians are winning we should help the Iraqis, and when the Iraqis are winning we should help the Iranians." |

I don't know, the ISIS, or now they just use IS, has said they will take Jerusalem back, so that does not bode well for many parties for many reasons. Not to mention, the murder of 3 Israeli teens by moslems of some group, faction, whatever, have caused the IDF to use airstikes in HAMAS territory. It's going to become increasing difficult to tell all the moslem players from each other in the region. FSA, IS, AQ, Hezzbolah, etc., etc.
collateral damage will be the norm

"You're mistaken. Re-read your Quran and Hadith. Jews are always 'special' to Muslims." Nope, you're mistaken. ISIS hates Shi'a more, because they are a perversion of the true path. You're confusing "mainstream" ideology with ISIS' focus. |

Read your newsfeed, then. The scumbag who murdered four random Jews in Brussels last month was an ISIS cadre: link |

regardless

With that is going on in Syria, Iraq, etc. Looks like some faction of HAMAS/Palestinians after killing 3 Israeli teens, including one who is from the US. Was thinking about taking advantage of the troubles along the border. HAMAS Rocket attacks and IDF air strikes. Israelis killing a Palestine youth and Israeli LEOs beating up another who was from the US. 5 HAMAS Commandoes raid an Israeli beach, all die
no surprise
More Hamas rocket and IDF air strikes. Now the IDF is thinking about a ground offensive
Oh well another lot of deaths in the region
sad
very sad
