I am compelled to look at the Stifle Table (and now the Ignore Table) and reflect. I notice that following a period of relative inaction on the tables suddenly an anonymous drive-by TMP gangster mows down a number of his/her fellow members with a blanket attack of Stifles and many of us get a higher score, seemingly, for no apparent reason.

Why does that happen? It seems unnecessary when the recipient has not posted anything and unforgiving that the stifler has bothered. Is this what The Editor envisioned when he created Mirth?

I care not for me, my dear fellows, but for you …but I do think including these tables is a Bleeped text idea.

D6 Junkie28 Jun 2014 6:26 a.m. PST

Where is this Stifle Table?

John the OFM28 Jun 2014 6:46 a.m. PST

Here is the Stifle Table:
TMP link

To the OP I say "So, what?"
Has anyone ever been harmed by a Stifle? Is anyone harmed by being listed in the Stifle Table? Even thought I have gained 5 since the last time I checked, I have still fallen to 19th place. Yet, somehow I have gathered up the Will to carry on.

We have voted in TMP Polls on the Stifle Table at least twice that I can recall.

Don't you have anything else to start threads about?

John the OFM28 Jun 2014 6:53 a.m. PST

I find it a bit jarring when I have stifled someone, but my sock puppets have not gotten around to it yet. And vice versa.
And does it really matter if you have been stifled by one person, but 6 accounts?
All that means is that the statistics are meaningless, which makes them all that much more FUN! And also even more dumb to get upset about.

Silent Pool28 Jun 2014 6:53 a.m. PST

Thanks John the OFM, at least you are still here for me.

Do you think Perry Miniatures will ever produce a kit representing "Washington Crossing the Delaware"? How many different types of uniform do you think would need to be included in the kit?

passiveaggressive28 Jun 2014 6:53 a.m. PST

Wow I made it in as the 33rd most ignored.Clearly some people are delicate little lambs who cannot cope with opinions.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP28 Jun 2014 6:57 a.m. PST

Interesting "ignore" list; I find that some pretty informative posters are there. To each his own …

John the OFM28 Jun 2014 7:17 a.m. PST

Do you think Perry Miniatures will ever produce a kit representing "Washington Crossing the Delaware"? How many different types of uniform do you think would need to be included in the kit?

I wish they would. Or Eureka. Or Fife and Drum. Or King's Mountain. Or…
You would need as many uniforms as there are people in the boat.
That is the very point of the painting. It is a revolutionary allegory, uniting the rich, the poor, hillbillies, Blacks, women, the seasick, the aristocrat, etc.

Tachikoma28 Jun 2014 8:46 a.m. PST

Clearly some people are delicate little lambs who cannot cope with opinions.

Perhaps it's simply a matter that they don't think yours are worth reading?

kallman28 Jun 2014 8:48 a.m. PST

I agree 79thPA about the ignore list. It is an interesting group of some of the folks that make coming to TMP worthwhile.(Shrug)

doug redshirt28 Jun 2014 10:17 a.m. PST

Interesting. I don't make the top 100 for stifles but break the top 50 for ignores. Have no idea what it means though.

Zargon28 Jun 2014 10:23 a.m. PST

SOG! I'm in the top 20% for most ignored, fascinating, I must have charisma considering how little I contribute to it all. :+) as said in title its those that can who do push the button, the rest we are here for community, info and amusement (I think?) so no harm except to the more fragile egos that need a win no matter what.
On Washington crossing the Delaware 2. things John. 1st is it allowed to copy the painting without permission, even as a diorama kit? 2 it can only be the Perrys we all know that and pressure needs applying methinks and this would without doubt be if not the most sold very close to for them ;) have you seen their Washington on horseback? I think the US mint used 'their' rendering when designing the $ bill :)
So alls well in Gondwanaland today and the two meter long dragonflies are hardly bothersome today.

passiveaggressive28 Jun 2014 10:36 a.m. PST

Up to 15 th most ignored now. Up 18 places on the basis of making a comment about people lacking backbone.

What an astonishing and strange place this is.

Sondergaard28 Jun 2014 11:05 a.m. PST

And you're surprised when your posts, on this thread at least, are valueless? Easier to stifle and get rid of the chaff.
Not that I bother but I fully understand those who do.

Wooo-hoo! I made the A-list!

I care! I'm on the list! I'm on the list! That makes me important!

I wish all the stiflers and ignorers would stop trying to tell me how to manage my own TMP experience by not caring about stifles and ignores … and the LIST that I AM ON!

John the OFM28 Jun 2014 12:41 p.m. PST

Leutze's painting was done in 1851, so I imagine it's in public domain by now.
The Perrys have succumbed ot my pressure before, specifically in the matter of the Volunteers of Ireland and dismounted Lee's Legion. Who knows? Maybe it is being sculpted as I type.

As for who makes it, why can there be only one? I am VERY impressed with Fife and Drum's Spirit of 76 and with Eureka's Ragged Continentals (which I "commissioned" via the 100 club).

If 4 different people make it, I will probably buy each one.

Robert Kennedy28 Jun 2014 1:52 p.m. PST

How do you know if it's the "stiflers and ignorers" telling you to do so? LOL. ;). And dammit!! I agree with John again!! LOL. I'm not telling you not to and personally I don't care if you do or don't. I am just sick and tired on the amount of threads and posts on the subject being brought up over and over and usually by those who receive(d)them and think that in some way they are being "punished",kept from posting,Ect…… It ain't gonna change cuz they do.And odds are it will just earn them more.

cazador28 Jun 2014 1:58 p.m. PST

I find it incomprehensible that such a decent chap as Broglie should be so high up this rather sad list.
His posts have always concerned inquiries or responses to such from fellow members, except for the odd mild-mannered comment during the recent unpleasantness. Have they really offended people that much?
If so, then I find this…rather sad…and unworthy of the hobby.
(I now expect my own rating to soar.)

Silent Pool28 Jun 2014 2:11 p.m. PST

Brother Robert, I feel your frustration and you are right. Nothing is going to change.

As a long time gone TMPer – Kaoschallenged – often said, "Trying to get rid of the Stifle Table reminds me of a squirrel trying to make love to an elephant. The desired result is pleasurable but quite impossible".

Actually, that might have been Kaoschallenged 2.

It is like flogging a dead horse. C'est la vie. No more from me-ish.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP28 Jun 2014 3:47 p.m. PST

How do you know if it's the "stiflers and ignorers" telling you to do so?

Because the same people who in other threads are telling the general public not to criticize their desire to use stifle and ignore because how they experience TMP is not other people's business are telling the general public how to and not to experience TMP by criticizing their opinions on the ignore and stifle tables.

Cerdic28 Jun 2014 4:34 p.m. PST

Hmmm….

The ignore table is rather strange. If you ignored everyone on it TMP would be virtually empty!

Last Hussar28 Jun 2014 5:18 p.m. PST

What's the difference between Ignore and Stifle? I've never done either, probably never will, so am too lazy to find the answer.

105 Stifles – I don't care, given if you do that you are probably a pillock. Just wonder why.

Zargon28 Jun 2014 6:15 p.m. PST

Yes John, that would be the most interesting sculpt off ever (you greedy man you ;) and if anyone wants to do (this is my idea here 1st if it hasn't been done) the painting in LEGO, THEY HAVE TO INVITE ME TOO. That would be the coolest in about 3 times real size in 3D LEGO, has it been done?
As for the Stifleignore thingy as long as it doesn't stop me from posting/replying to posts and enjoying (yeah I'll serve my time in the DH if I'm a douch nozzle) but for the rest, friends? I think. Cheers all

Cadian 7th28 Jun 2014 7:56 p.m. PST

I suppose I must be lacking in taste or social graces. Most of the folks topping the list on both stifles and ignores are folks who post items I do read! ;)
Of course, I consider myself to be rather agreeable with others, unless I'm getting shot at!
It seems if you do stifle/ignore 70% of those listed, activity would be very sparse on the front page! Excepting news items!

Robert Kennedy28 Jun 2014 9:16 p.m. PST

So you don't know who then and are just generalizing as to who they mey or may not be. Ummmm… so in others words you think that they doing exactly what you are doing right now as you are criticizing others opinions and telling them how they should experience TMP. Wow. I still agree with John especially since he,like myself, find it equally silly about all these complaints about the Stifles and Ignores. Do whatever you want.Experience TMP anyway you want. You are right. Other people should not tell you what to do or not do. I could not care less either way. And I do Stifle and have used the Ignore function as it is a function that was made available by the owner of this site.Criticize away. Jeez. Tell ME how I should enjoy TMP.

Khusrau29 Jun 2014 3:20 a.m. PST

yep.. love the stifle and ignore functions. Some people are just empty vessels, and others actively affect my experience of using TMP. Thankyou Editor for providing a mechanism where my experience is not so impaired.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP29 Jun 2014 4:30 a.m. PST

Ummmm… so in others words you think that they doing exactly what you are doing right now as you are criticizing others opinions and telling them how they should experience TMP.

I did not tell anyone how they should experience TMP. If you can find an instance where I posted something of the order that "I don't think people should have X (ignore, stifle, or whatever) function because I don't agree with what they want to do with it (i.e., it punishes other people, they are missing out, etc.)." Please quote it, link to it, and I will apologize for that error.

All I did is point out the inconsistency in posters that:

* Advocate for and say they will/are using ignore/stifle
* Criticize others over advocating against ignore/stifle for trying to limit their TMP experience
* Criticize the way others experience TMP, to wit paying attention to the ignore/stifle tables

There are a number of posters here who have done all three of those things. I haven't quoted and linked to the series of people doing that over the recent ignore/stifle threads because naming names probably comes close to the personal attack prohibition.

Broglie29 Jun 2014 5:09 a.m. PST

Many thanks Cazador for your kind words above.

I am indeed mystified by my number of Ignores although I have to confess this is tinged with a secret sense of achievement.

To have acquired such a level of notoriety through such a small number of contributions is truly flattering.

Indeed I have received another ignore since your post above. Who would even bother?

It is, as you say, sad!

Winston Smith29 Jun 2014 5:18 a.m. PST

I have a great idea for those who hate the Ignore table. Why not ignore it?

Silent Pool29 Jun 2014 11:08 a.m. PST

I have a great idea for those who hate the Ignore table. Why not ignore it?

Aw, shucks, Winnith. That would ruin my TMP experience.

That suggestion is pure evil. evil grin

PS Robert Kennedy, you spelt Stifle incorrectly in your poster. Was that deliberate? Classic response, if so. laugh

TamsinP29 Jun 2014 6:48 p.m. PST

Just checked and it appears someone has actually taken the time and effort to ignore me. Oh well, their loss. grin

Brian Smaller30 Jun 2014 5:46 p.m. PST

Just checked and it appears someone has actually taken the time and effort to ignore me. Oh well, their loss. grin

I have five Ignores as well. I think the same way you do TamsinP.

Given that 99% of my posts are related to actual miniatures and wargaming I do wonder why 140 odd people have stifled me. I don't expend too much energy on thinking about it though – I have models to paint and games to play.

Broglie01 Jul 2014 3:29 a.m. PST

I received another ignore since yesterday. I now have 29. I find that amazing given how little I post.

DsGilbert01 Jul 2014 7:20 a.m. PST

What is the difference between ignore and stifle?

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Jul 2014 1:31 p.m. PST

Ignore blocks threads from a user when you browse threads at the board and front page level.

Stifle greys out posts from a users within threads.

Robert Kennedy01 Jul 2014 4:13 p.m. PST

I think that it has more to do with what you post Broglie LOL.wink

DsGilbert01 Jul 2014 4:29 p.m. PST

Thank you. Never knew. never used.

Broglie02 Jul 2014 2:38 a.m. PST

Hi Robert Kennedy.
I post about updates to my blog
thewargamorium.wordpress.com
which is once or sometimes twice a month.

I post complimenting other people's work and ask about their rules or scenery and that is about it.

I did post some mild comments during the recent Tango debate but that was a long time ago now.

I see you are catching up with me so you must be upsetting people as well.

Robert Kennedy02 Jul 2014 8:26 a.m. PST

LOL Really?. I haven't looked anymore for a long time.I probably am. You know all those nasty and offensive posts I make on how I feel about some of the current threads on the same repetitive subject and on a certain person and his Sock Puppets. OK maybe just a couple. Or maybe my Stormtroopers and the Dead Horse LOL.Let me know if I ever make one that offends you BTW. Then Ignore or Stifle me LOL.But then again….Hmmmmmm….I wonder how many I gotten from his?. Naaawww.Not really. Doesn't mean a thing like John says. He and I do so ourselves for pretty much the same reasons. Most of mine are for a person's behavior not for their VIEWS.I think you are just getting some now for the same thing as I do.Voicing Your VIEWs on a certain subject(s). And for that only. I haven't found any of your post deserving of one or the other. As others know I had been posting a lot of informative and to some helpful posts and threads in the 10 odd years or so That I have been on TMP. Emphasis on the HAD.And some think that they are "punishing" me in some way? Got some news for you boys and girls. IT AIN'T. If they don't want to see my postings? So be it. Their loss and I guess in some way my gain wink LOL. You don't want to see my views? Then stop posting on the same subject over and over and over and over.

Broglie02 Jul 2014 12:54 p.m. PST

Indeed.

Brian Smaller02 Jul 2014 12:58 p.m. PST

Indeed.

That's Ignoring talk!

Broglie02 Jul 2014 3:13 p.m. PST

It was not intentional.

I just did not know how to follow Robert Kennedy's post.

Maybe I should have said "agreed"

Robert Kennedy02 Jul 2014 8:22 p.m. PST

grin

Dan 05502 Jul 2014 9:41 p.m. PST

I think I've lost track of which side I'm on.

What happens if you ignore yourself?

Robert Kennedy02 Jul 2014 9:53 p.m. PST

Can it mean that you inhibit healthy communication and trust with yourself wink. LOL

badwargamer03 Jul 2014 2:53 a.m. PST

I don't blame people for ignoring me….I don't post much actual wargaming stuff nowadays! I really should make the effort considering we play games every week, have a large table and in excess of 50000 figures, loads of scratchbuilt things, our own set of rules etc etc

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP03 Jul 2014 4:53 a.m. PST

That's a nice blog you have there Broglie.
