Are there any ranges of WoTR figures that mix reasonably well with the Perry Plastics? I'm tempted to get some Old Glory- they are listed as 25mm but OG's scales can be all over the place. Does anyone have some OG WoTR figs who can comment on the size/bulk comparison? Thanks.

I've used some Mirliton late medievals:

and some TAG with head swops:

I recently bought some English and Scots figures from Claymore Castings which are just a bit shorter but have the same head size. Also got some Ebob on the way – these should be slimmer and shorter than the Perrys.

Added: My friend passed me some Front Rank figures but these are visibly larger than the Perrys.

OG foot are slightly shorter, but I think they look fine together. I use them on the same base. The heft is similar. OG horses, however, are considerably smaller. i use them in separate units on thicker bases so the riders are approximately the same height.

Crusader fit pretty well – similar tall thin style, and equipment.

Front Rank are a bit too big – old Foundry are a bit too small. But a few of each can blend in OK.

The massive range of Perry metal WoTR go quite well with them…

Passiveaggressive-

If you actually look at the metal range for WoTR it's not very extensive when it comes to troops.

Out of curiosity, what are you looking for that you find poorly catered by the Perrys?

chrach729 Jun 2014 6:58 a.m. PST

Griefbringer-
Their metal range for wotr is limited, relying on the plastic boxes to provide the troops. I'd like some metal alternative to the regular plastic troops as I quickly tire of assembling the plastics.

Intrepide29 Jun 2014 10:07 a.m. PST

OK, I see it now. Thank you, saltflats.

So essentially metal archers, billmen and men-at-arms on foot? That clarifies the situation a bit.

Starting with the Perrys, they provide four packs of men-at-arms (attacking, standing, Yorkist command, Lancaster Command), which should provide a decent starting point. For billmen, there is one metal pack marching (WR22), and you could also try using the metal polearm infantry from European Armies range (packs EA2-EA5), especially when combined with extra bills (WR21).

Crusader provides two packs of longbowmen (MEW004 and MEW005), but the rest of infantry is not particularly useful for native English troops. Their pikemen have so small hands that trying to arm them with anything larger than steel pikes is going to end up in a mess.

Mirliton/Grenadier human range provides two more packs of archers. They also do a few billmen (in Halberdier packs 1 and 3), and the figures in Spearmen 1 and Spearmen 2 sets should come with separate spears, so you could easily re-arm them with spare bills (from the Perrys). And those foot knights are really gorgeous, though their weapons are quite fantastically proportioned and might look a bit out of place next to the more reasonably proportioned Perry figures.

A lot of the Foundry medieval ranges were sculpted by the Perrys, though quite a long time ago.

As for the Old Glory, I am not really able to comment – I only own their artillery pieces, not actual figures.

Speaking of Perrys European Armies range, do not forget to check pack EA32 (Italian Heavy Infantry). That might work for some particularly well armed English retainers.
