Yesterday's 'Dominion Post' newspaper (the Wellington daily paper) carried an interesting story about a forthcoming WW1 commemoration project to be developed by 2016 at the New Zealand Army Museum at Waiouru. Peter Jackson is apparently helping to design an outdoor walk-through Western Front battlefield the size of three football fields. The newspaper included three (rather grainy) pictures of models of the proposed terrain.

All prepping his death on the Red Baron short film being shot for the australian war memorial |
Oddball | 27 Jun 2014 6:03 a.m. PST |
Why would Australia do that? The Red Baron was shot down by Capt. Roy Brown, a Canadian. At least that's the story. I am looking forward to a trip to New Zealand and Australia. Most likely after retirement (6 – 7 years). Those will have to be 2 of the sites I visit. |

The Red Baron was shot-down by an Aussie with an AAMG. Yes? |

I say the butler did it. But it could have been the Canadian or the Australian, too. link |

Oh dear, here's hoping WW3 doesn't break out over who shot down the Red Baron. It is the time of year to start a war

We know it was Snoopy because the Royal Guardsmen did a song about it |

I just got back from a battlefield tour of the Somme and there is a big sign at the Red Barons crash site crediting the Australian gunner with the kill. Great work New Zealand. I am coming to visit this awesome attraction. |

I fully believe Richthofen . overcome with remorse, took a captured SMLE into the air and shot himself with it! |

If I remember correctly the Perry brothers made a complete range of miniatures for Gallipoli for Peter Jackson. I am sure that with me many others keep their fingers crossed (although this makes painting much more difficult ;-)) for Jackson to make the ultimate Gallipoli movie

Porthos, You are correct sir. The Perry Bros have, or had, pics of his custom figs up on their site. But before Gallipoli, everyone knows that his first project (and 1st love, I'm told) has gotta be a remake of The Blue Max, but following the book, this time!!! (oh, please Sir Jackson, before I die would really be sweet

He looks heavier. I guess his diet has changed. "Blue Max", really? I hadn't heard about that one. He has lost my confidence and respect with this Hobbit debacle. I can see half the movie being devoted to wildly (spelled impossibly) acrobatic dogfights, even though less than a tenth of the book's verbiage was about air combat

Intrepide | 29 Jun 2014 2:33 p.m. PST |
The book is a rather sordid and depressing record of the decay of a personality during a losing war. The movie is far more engaging than the declining alcoholic and proto-Nazi of the novel. |

I have to disagree. I find the book absolutely fantastic. Granted, it is a rather depressing tale, but sooooo different from the 1966 movie. (and better IMHO) Mr. Jackson needs to do this although he has said building WW1 aircraft is his hobby & he doesn't want to turn his "hobby" into his "job". I also read where he stated he make a WW1 air movie & make money without vampires or zombies or the like in it as proven by Flyboys & The Red Baron. To that I say "BUNK!". That's why I say he could do The Blue Max much closer to the book (with the flying a bigger part of it, Great War Ace & Intrepide) and it would be the BEST WW1 air movie ever made. The book spent a lot of time on the bestseller's list when it came out , it should be remade & Sir Jackson should do it. |

PJ can do it, ONLY if he sticks to the book and dispenses with his addiction for "cliff-hanger" action scenes. I don't believe he's capable of denying himself, and he will wreck Blue Max utterly. I do want the book remade into a proper modern film, and I wouldn't mind a bit more combat stuff than the book contains, or at least nice long scenes as given in the book, fully rendered on the screen, to obtain a nice balance between cinematic action visuals and drama between the characters. And the sexy parts? Mmmm! It would be interesting to find someone more perfect for the role of Katie than Ursula Undress provided
