Looks good, no idea how "Hollywood History" it is though.

Well, the Tiger looks like a real Tiger. The road wheels give the T-34 mock up away.
The action looks good but over dramatic.

Looks like a good action flick. The quick shots of the German tanks look convincing. The actors' haircuts and facial hair are to make them look cool not very GI.

I will be seeing it.

According to a British gamer who has been to the filming location, one of the Tigers is from the Bovington Museum. The others had their superstructures built according to the actual plans even though they were mounted on some type of British APC/IFV chassis that has Christy type suspension.

Anyone know why this thread doesn't appear on the frontpage?

jpattern226 Jun 2014 3:31 p.m. PST

I'll be there.

jpattern226 Jun 2014 3:32 p.m. PST

Cherno, it's there for me. Did you opt out of the WWII Media message board? (I doubt that you ignored yourself. hah!)

Cherno26 Jun 2014 3:44 p.m. PST

I have set my profile to show all boards, but if you can see it, it has to be an issue with my settings after all :) Thanks!

I just read that the Tiger appearing in the movie is indeed the one from Bovington Tank Museum, and it's the only Tiger in running order in the world and it's also the first time in history that a real wartime Tiger tank will appear in a motion picture. I hope they treat it well :)

The Tiger is fine – I saw it last Saturday. :)

It's not the first real Tiger in a feature film though. A Tiger II (actually a spruced up battlefield wreck), two Panthers (one of them working) and even a Flammpanzer B2(f) (another wreck) appeared in 'Theirs The Glory', made in 1945.

is this movie based upon anything that actually happened? Such as

I'll be there opening day. The trailer looks great to me.

A single Sherman and Tigers? IS it a 5 minute movie with a firey ending?

Personal logo Dan Cyr Supporting Member of TMP26 Jun 2014 7:46 p.m. PST

No, two Tigers break down and are destroyed by their crew, one gets wreaked by US artillery and the last one is rocketed by a P-47.

The Sherman and its crew are caught in a welcoming parade and buried in flowers, wine bottles and eager young women.

Dan

If Shia is in it will the tank transform?

Marc33594 Supporting Member of TMP27 Jun 2014 4:44 a.m. PST

Cardinal

That was my speculation on the original thread on this topic. At least may have been an inspiration and matches the hype.

nazrat27 Jun 2014 7:55 a.m. PST

I sincerely doubt the movie will be about Task Force Baum. You don't see that many downer movies coming out-- the moviegoing public just doesn't seem to like feeling bad when they come out of a film.

You never know, though, you guys may just be right in the end. But the US will succeed in their mission, maybe. 8)=

Ron W DuBray27 Jun 2014 8:04 a.m. PST

so why is the tank armed with a modern (1960s) super gun??

WarWizard27 Jun 2014 11:36 a.m. PST

Too bad Brad Pitt is in it…..I'll pass.

john lacour27 Jun 2014 5:29 p.m. PST

according to wiki, a real jagdpanther was used in a ww2 film in the 50's. it was a runner, too…

Winston Smith27 Jun 2014 7:55 p.m. PST

Brad Pitt is 51 years old. And he is a staff sergeant?
Most GENERALS were younger than that.
That's as bad as Bruce Willis playing a 55 year old lieutenant in Tears of the Sun.

jpattern227 Jun 2014 8:31 p.m. PST

"Not only that, but Brad Pitt was born in 1963! WWII had been over for 18 years by then! There's no way he could have actually commanded a tank in the war! No thanks, I'll pass on this outrageously a-historical fillum!"

You guys crack me up sometimes.

Here's a little bit of arcane Hollywood trivia: Actors often play characters who are younger or older than the actors' actual ages. Shocking!

How old was Humphrey Bogart when he portrayed a Grant tank commander in Africa in the film, Sahara?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP28 Jun 2014 9:07 a.m. PST

Generally in movies the actors are not always the right age. Ryan O'Neal in A Bridge Too Far was actually older [37] then Gen Gavin[32] who he portrayed. The critics said he looked too young to be a General … In The Longest Day, the critics said all the younger actors that portrayed the US soldiers looked too young … when in fact most were older then the troops they protrayed …

How old was Humphrey Bogart when he portrayed a Grant tank commander in Africa in the film, Sahara?
He was 43.

Good one Can.

I think the aircraft thing has been debunked by Operations Research teams.

But I will give you this one. The second is destroyed as it cannot find a bridge to take the load.
