Hey all---I am in the midst of a Punic Wars commission, using 1/72 plastics, mostly by HaT. The customer intends to use these figures in lieu of the blocks in games of Command and Colors.

Here's my progress so far. Most of the foot are done; shield transfers still have to be applied, touching up around those transfers awaits, and more more more…but here's pics!

Sorry for the sub-par pics---these are the quick cellphone pics I take to update my customer on progress. I am waiting to do proper photography (and basing) until the project is done.

Thanks for looking!

Good job! I like your skin tone and overall color choices.

Them's pretty. Love the Roman Shields.

Dang super!

Caesar26 Jun 2014 11:53 a.m. PST

Very lovely work on those figures. I've painted those, too and they aren't easy to do if one is used to painting typical 28s.

Armoured middle eastern archers???

Nice looking figures!

"Armoured middle eastern archers???"

They are the eastern archers from one of the HaT Roman auxiliaries/allies sets. You need archers for some of the CnC unit types as they are more differentiated than DBA generic psiloi.

Lovely figures, much of my Punic Wars stuff is also HaT, which I also use to play CnC Ancients with.

Yes, this is good stuff. I have a plastic/metal Carthaginian army in this scale & would gladly include figures painted to this standard.

I have been toying with this very same idea using 8-16 for foot units and 6 for horse using hatt and zvezda. Buuuuuuuuut. Haven't messed with HO plastics since I did valley campaign using airfix guys in the 70s. Is it really a viable option for a long established "lead head"?

mikeygees30 Jun 2014 1:04 p.m. PST

very cool…

Grignotage30 Jun 2014 1:37 p.m. PST

Thanks for all the comments! Updates soon, I have Roman auxilia done and the shield transfers for 70+ Romans are waiting.

@Clays Russians---I broke out of my "no plastics" mindset a few years ago when I bought some Caesar Miniatures insurgents, so that I could cheaply collect stuff for modern Iraq. Those painted up well. If you want to test the waters, maybe buy some soft plastic guys for one unit---something not terribly important---paint them and see if you like how they look, that way you're not too invested if you don't care for the result.

How does one paint these new plastics so as the finish does not crumble off.?
