My main opponent, Murdock, paints faster than I do. It isn't fair, is it?

He just posted a few pics on his blog of the troops he has finished so far:

Meanwhile I don't have any finished units . . . I do have major paint on ten pike & shot units but they are not yet finished and certainly not based and flocked.

It isn't fair, is it?

Not sure about black for rank & file. It was an expensive colour to make (lots of re-dyeing in blue, hence it being "the" colour for a gentleman to wear.

The rank and file of the Ministers' Regt in the Covenanter Army wore black "uniforms", -hence the name. But these guys seem to have black and white striped socks, like Newcastle United football (soccer) team.

Good figs and photography.

According to the re-enactment societies, there were at least two Royalist regiments in black – Earl Rivers' Regiment and Sir Thomas Blackwell's Regiment.

MajorB,

I'm doing the Royalists and Blackwell's will be once of my units. . . . But the photos are of my Parliamentary opponent's units (not mine) and I don't know which units he is raising.

I have not found any information about any Parliamentarian units dressed in black.

I hope that mounted figure has a good seat with a flag that size. Lol.
Commanded shot seem very popular these days.
