Hi I want to get a couple of war bands started for Too Fat Lardies Dux Britanniarum, I'm really tempted by the Musketeer Minis offerings as well as some of the Westind mini's especially with their sale on. Question is will they mix? Also will the new Curtys minis range as well as the Grippung beast figs also mix in? I have some of the GB Joms Vikings and they are enormous in comparison to others. Any help or side by side photos appreciated guys. |

Front row is 3 old Citadel, 3 Musketeer, 2 GB, left to right in a unit w more of all 3 ranges. Westwind mix very nicely. Those Jomsvikings are the newer GB, and they along w/ the newer Early Saxons and Welsh are a bit bulkier and taller, but lovely minis. The Curteys are inferior, so why bother? |

I have had lots of Dark Age figs from all the manufacturers in the past. The only ones not compatible are Tanatus (too well proportioned) and possible Renegade (rather bigger than most.) Newline are on the small side but work OK. Old Glory also sometimes a bit smaller than the rest, but still OK. I have painted and sold dark age armies which included Muskateer, GB, Westwind, Essex (excellent saxons) Curteys and Black Tree Design. All work fine together. |

First of all let me congratulate you for getting one of the best rulesets ever. We've just played a 77 week campaign at our clubhouse and people are asking for a new one. As for matching figures I'm only mentioning Romano British(Late Roman) and (early)Saxons, Irish, Picts and Scotti. Perfect match Musketeer, Gripping Beast, Black Tree Design. Good match to all three above: WestWind, but the casting quality is sometimes a bit off. The 'specials' are very good and the separate heads are a godsend. In fact you could almost make an entire Dux B Romano British army by using the plastic GB Dark Age Warriors and heads from WestWind and shields from Musketeer. The new Curteys are very, very good in fact and match very well with GB,Musketeer and Black Tree. Newline is indeed a bit smaller but still match somewhat in separate units. They are however relatively cheap. Artizan has a few packs in their Arthurian range that also match the above. Crusader has a few packs in their Irish and Scottish range that also match but try noy to buy them unseen. For example the Irish slingers are way smaller than even Newline. Bill T (from Musketeer) is bringing out a new range of splendid looking Irish figures under the Footsore Miniatures banner. They are meant for a slightly later period but 90% can be used for 5th and 6th C. |

I have just finished an 'army' for Dux Bellorum using the GB Early Saxons. Fabulous figures and I would struggle to justify using any other figures but those. That said, I did include the Hengist and Horsa pack to give added leader variety. They are nice figures, but the rank and file chaps appear to have too many leaning back for my tastes

GB, Crusader, Musketeer, West Wind, Black Tree (if you take the risk) and MDS (as was) fit together seamlessly. Newline go well, but are a little bit "flatter" – I like them but they might not suit everyone. I have a number of Renegade Saxons, which are a bit late for Arthurian, being more Anglo-Dane IMO, but these are large, heavy and oddly proportioned, with hands like dustbin lids. I wouldn't buy any more. HTH, Mitch |
