"In December last year, The National Interest listed the world's five greatest battleships, defined as the most iconic. Definitions matter. Less adventurous but more easily defended, here's a list of the five greatest metal battleships, defined as having the most influential designs. A list of the five that were greatest in service would be different again

This article was interesting, but kind of stupid. First, if influence is his measure, then why say "greatest"? How about most influential? Of course, even then his choices would still be awful for the most part. For example, how could he pick Gloire over Warrior? Gloire may have been built first, but she was essentially a wooden ship sheathed in iron plates, whereas Warrior was all iron construction, which certainly pointed more to the future than Gloire. I agree with the choice of the Royal Sovereigns and Dreadnought. And finally, how on earth can he put battlecruisers on a list about battleships? |

I agree with Texas Jack; Warrior set the standard for future ship design in ways that the Glorie did not. And I definitely do NOT agree with the Hood being included, it's design didn't really influence the post-Washington Treaty ships in any meaningful way. -Will |

Or the USS Iowa class BB's,when retrofitted for updated weapons,commo,etc.. Great warships, but not 'influential' on later designs since they were among the last battleships commissioned
