My references give Russian greatcoat color to be "brown gray." Yet looking at color plates and what others have painted coats seem to range from blue/gray to butternut. Interested in your suggestions for a stock color or mixing one. I generally use Vallejo.

Thanks

I normally use Vallejo 921 English Uniform as a base, or eventually Andrea Color NAC-05 English Khaki.
I used the first color for my russian crimean uhlans that you can find in this forum.

I asked this a couple of years ago, inasmuch as the various pictures I had showed the coats to be brown, grey, greyish brown, and brownish grey. Some rapier-like wit suggested I paint the overcoats brown, grey, greyish brown, and brownish grey. I decided, amidst uncontrollable gales of laughter, to paint the overcoats a light fawn.

i use tan, period. its easier and tended to fade from a mouse gray tan to a full biege after a few washings. (there was apparently dog hair in the weave to make the coat warmer.) there are a few photos of reproduction coats with Crimean War re-enactors. as a side note , I pray for peace in that region of the world.

Thanks. I've gone ahead and painted those with forage caps tan and the ones w/ black spiked helmets grey as they look Prussian enough to work with FPW.
