Folks, I'm looking to cheaply expand my Saga/WAB/Dux Brit options and I want to field some generic missile armed levy (bow, sling, javelins, rock, etc) that could do service with my middle-late Saxons warband, Anglo-Dane warband and my Viking warband. I would also like to stick with 25mm from Old Glory since that is what rest of my armies are and they are cheap. So, since Old Glory doesn't offer generic dark age skirmishers, what pack could I use as a substitute? I was thinking of using their "Welsh bowmen" DA-22. Are there better options? Thanks!

They look fairly generic. I would find them a home in pretty much any Dark Age army.

At the end of the day, a tunic is a tunic. Period and cultural differences would be more down to decoration on the clothing. So paint 'em simple and they will fit in anywhere!

I think the lack of trousers makes them look quite Welsh. The OG Romano-British archers would probably look better for the armies you mention.

I have both OG packs and think the Romano Brit archers fit better with more armies. At least that's how I use them.

Thanks guys. The Romano-Brit archers were the other option I was thinking about.

Another option if you don't mind plastic is the Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors set. They actually size well against OG, and the box includes slings and bows – and your requirement is exactly what they're intended for.

"the box includes slings and bows"

It includes slings, but not bows. I wish it did -- it would have been a nice source for large amounts of unarmoured archers…

Besides slings, GB Dark Age Warriors set also provides javelins (and spears, sword and axe).

But no bows as KatieL mentioned.
