I own and enjoy The Beautiful Game by Two Hour Wargames but it does take about 90 minutes to play. I wanted a game that I could play solo or head to head in about 5-10 minutes and play a tournament or a season easily. I have created a concept called Quick Play Sports. My first one is Soccer and I'm working on Baseball and Football. The concept was born when I listened to a WC Game and the analyst said most sports come done to a few key plays per half and generally after pondering it I agreed. I rated my teams with Four Reps Offense, Midfield, Defense, and Goal Keeping. I use a Chance table then 3d6 versus Rep to resolve 4 key plays per half. I made ratings for The Group of Death. You can download the free game at lzbravo.com |

Had a couple fun games trying this out. Though I think for playing out a season I might change it from 4 key play per half to 1d6 key plays per half. So some games (only 2 plays) maybe rather forgettable while others (12 plays) would be truly epic but most (7 plays) will be pretty average. Looking forward to Baseball. |

A d6 per half is a really good idea. Thanks! |

Thanks gentlemen. This looks like fun and is certainly timely with the WC underway right now. |

I've played with the 4 per half and it works really well. It would depend how fast you want to play a season. maybe just play your team through the season. I played a group of four teams (6 games) and breezed through it. Fun little game John, thanks! FYI – Playable with d6 only, no figures needed. |

"Though I think for playing out a season I might change it from 4 key play per half to 1d6 key plays per half. " Or at the end of each lay roll a D6. If the score is less than the number of plays so far, then that play was the last in the half. Otherwise play another one. This gives you 1-6 plays per half, but you have no idea how many there will be in advance. You could even say that a '6' always means another lay, so a half could (if you roll a lot of sixes, have an unlimited number of plays. I ran through a few games of the game this evening, and found what other people have – it gives a narrative, but also a lot of 0-0 draws. Time for some tweaks :) |

We have gathered feedback from over 150 games played and had great input from Rich Jones author of The Beautiful Game. The result is a great new version which includes extra time, improved scoring chances, league rules, injuries, and cards. You still just need a few d6 and 15 minutes! The new version is available for free at LZBravo.com and 2hourblog.blogspot.com Please keep the feedback rolling in. Later John |
