How does one go on and post pictures in messages on TMP? |
Twilight Samurai | 23 Jun 2014 9:49 p.m. PST |
I upload my photo to a site like Photobucket. Once there move your mouse over the picture and an option for getting links appears that can then just be copied into your message.

If they are hosted someone on the intarwebz, just copy/paste the URL into the text with no other formatting necessary. Otherwise, as TS noted above, you need to have them hosted somewhere first, then copy/paste the URL. |

Dear GGouvia Me too. I haven't been able to figure this out for years. I won't upload my pictures to a hosting service and the process any other way seem tortuously complicated. So I just don't upload them. Otto |

I FTP them to my webserver (through GoDaddy) and link through to them. Easy-peasy. |

I usually post pics to my blog, then copy the url to here. I also use Photobucket and Flickr. Xin |

I won't upload my pictures to a hosting service Different strokes for different folks. Personally, as it's only photos of toy soldiers I don't have a problem with putting my pics on a hosting site – my blog mainly. I've done this for years now. Sometimes this had led to magazines and the like commissioning and paying me for photos, or organising photo shoots by a professional (for which I've also been paid). At the end of the year there is usually a 'photo paid for' unit in my cabinets. Still, like I say, some people are very private people. Some of them are so private they advertise how private they are. [grin] |

Dear Major B. Cheap and paranoid. I won't pay for it, and I won't let anyone touch my gaming computer. I have three computers in my house. One for e-mail, one for my games and graphics, and one for my finances and bills. The latter two are NEVER on the net and cannot be corrupted. Lost 10 years of work once to a virus on my wargame computer. The e-mail computer has the best security service I can buy, and even then I have a spare hard drive which goes in each month to get the updates. The hard drive from the computer is wiped clean and re-installed. Even then a virus occasionally gets through. |

I won't pay for it, Most hosting sites (Flickr, Photobucket etc.) and blogs that people use for their pictures on TMP are free. and I won't let anyone touch my gaming computer. I have three computers in my house. One for e-mail, one for my games and graphics, and one for my finances and bills. The latter two are NEVER on the net and cannot be corrupted. Paranoid indeed! I work in Information Security, have at least 6 computers and smartphones at home. All are protected by good (and free, except for my work laptop) AV software and I have not had any problems with malware. But then I'm careful about what sites I visit when surfing the 'net. So if the only machine you have connected to the Internet is your email one (and presumably the one you use to access TMP) then why not just transfer the photos from your camera straight to that machine? Lost 10 years of work once to a virus on my wargame computer. Take regular backups and keep them off-line. You should also ensure that you have a firewall between your computer and the Internet. Oh, and make sure your AV or anti-malware software is regularly updated. A paid for service will stop if you don't renew it. Also, you should make sure your Operating Systems (OS) (e.g. Windows, Linux, Apple OSX, whatever) are regularly updated. Come to think of it, your machines that are not on the 'net are more likely to have vulnerabilities because they are not getting updated regularly. |

While we're here
Can one of you smart people detail the procedure for including just a link to a photo (that would be, say, on Flicr or Photobucket) ? I ask because sometimes I'd like to include such a thing that is really only a sideline in the middle of a discussion/thread for those who may be interested – and not clog up the flow with a (usually slow-loading) pic. Thanks. |

Can one of you smart people detail the procedure for including just a link to a photo (that would be, say, on Flicr or Photobucket) Just make sure that the link you paste doesn't end in ".jpg" or ".gif" and it'll appear as a link rather than a picture. |
