I found the following image of Portuguese mestizo troops. I had found a more reliable image, but cannot find it again, so this one will have to convey the general idea. Anyways, does anyone know how early these colors might have been used by mestizo troops? This one (and my other source) are dated for the 1760s IIRC, and I am interested in more like 1725. Thank you for any and all information and/or references.

Looks like they just darkened the skin of a regular Portuguese regiment. And what's with the white drummer? Check out the Portuguese entries on Kronoskaf SYW Project. |

Kronoskaf is a great resource and I should have thought of it! It shows that these colors are normally associated with the Armada troops, (which I knew already)but has no color information on the Prados troops (shown in my pic.) Since the prados troops were raised in Brasil, perhaps they were using Armada colors under direction rom the Armada? In any ecvent the Armada began using these colors in 1723, which is exactly when I am interested in. Thank you Spontoon. Does anyone else have any relevant information? |
