I bought the V 2 rule book last Summer and have only really now started looking at seriously getting back into playing these rules.

Are there any clubs / players in the Merseyside or Manchester area who would welcome a new player?

I played V 1.0 from it's release but am definitely "Rusty" with the game as I have not played since 2012 so would need some help familiarising myself with the game again.

Thanks

Try MAWS. They tend to arrange games via their Yahoo! group.

Hi Russ

So am I. I live in Meols. There's a group of us that play at each others houses once or twice a week. A couple of years ago we were playing FOG pretty much every week. I was involved in V2 playtesting and bought the rules, but I've only played one or two games of FOG2 since its release. We play FOGR occasionally (I'm playing tomorrow in fact) but the main ancients and medieval games we've been playing recently are my own Sword & Spear rules link. I'm happy to play a game of FOG though, so you're welcome to come and play a game.
We play lots of other games as well – Saga and Chain of Command being two recent favorites.

There are also a couple of clubs nearby – Deeside Defenders and Liverpool Wargames Club. I believe both have players who play FOG. At Deeside Defenders there is no easy way to arrange games (they don't have much of an online presence) so it's a bit hit and miss in terms of getting a game.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the invite, It's interesting to hear that you were involved in the playtesting of V2.0. I have had the book since last August and paid full whack for it from USA hoping that I could re kindle the game within our group but it just never happened. FOG was the first set of rules I ever played but we stopped playing it in 2012 mainly because of other commitments.

I also own the FOGR rule book but have never played the rules as we decided to give DBR a bash which turned out to be a bit of a non starter.

I am a member of deeside defenders but FOG is not really played much there and we tend to play other rule sets on club nights.

I am going to MAWS tomorrow so will see how I get on there but may well be back in touch with you to arrange a game of FOG with yourself.

I don't have a finished army yet but am painting up some Greek Xyston figures which may be done in the next few Months.

Cheers

Russ

Minenfield

Have any of you at LWA tried out Sword & Spear yet ? I could maybe come over and put on a game if some of you are interested.

Website link is lwaonline.blogspot.co.uk/…. Check us out !

There's not much to check out on your website. It could really do with updating. I think many people who find the website and see that it appears to have been last updated in 2007 might assume the club no longer exists. It certainly doesn't seem to be aimed at encouraging new members to join.

Hi Mark,

Must admit haven't tried Sword and Spear. I am a mere foot soldier at the club. Try contacting Ian Sanderson. I believe they are working on the website. The club was formed in 1974, and we are still there, off Dale Street, two mins walk from Moorfields station !
