Ever since the big ImagiNation game in Ayton at the beginning of may I've been a little 'off' gaming so in an attempt to get the mojo going again I took note of comments from Henry Hyde regarding a set of naval rules, Blood, Bilge and Iron Balls by Allan Abbey and available from Pen and Sword Books. I'm by far an expert on the Age of Sail but these rules give a good fun game with enough detail for me and an easy way to develop a narrative from the game, which is useful for ImagiNations. The report and my comments on the rules are on my blog: link Here are a few pics of the trial game. I used the downloadable ship counters from the Pen and Sword site (and included in the book as well) but I think I may acquire a few models
:)
For £4.99 GBP for the eBook version I think these rules are a bargain. Cheers Andy |

"I used the downloadable ship counters"
and a blue tablecloth, with a bit of guts behind it. |

I'll have you know that is one of IKEA's finest throws! We've only got one tablecloth and that's gold coloured and only comes out at Christmas! |

man get thee to Wilkos – (wilkinsons) a blue tablecloth – almost six by four – costs seven quid, is a goodly colour and survives a bit of green blue paint splash (green blue paint also purchased as a tester pot for less than a quid!) |

It played out quite well. It was only as I started filling out the narrative as the game started that I realised all my ImagiNation forces were on those two ships and if I sunk them then I'd have had a slight problem! :) A |
