Last Tues the Mechanicsville Tues Night Skirmishers play "Jet Age; Cy6" in another Air-war over North Vietnam battle.

JD the GM provided the 4ea Communist MiG 21 jets, flown by Malcolm (Sergei the Russian pilot) and Bing (Thran the NVA pilot).

F-8 Crusaders over North Vietnam

Rob broke out for the first time his US Navy jets. Rob (Stud Muffin) 2ea F4 Phantoms, JD (Bama Boy) 2ea Skyhawk's and Charles (Green Giant) 2ea F-8 Crusaders. The fight was fought in the skies west of Hanoi circa 1968 and the USN target was to knock out 2ea AAA sites and a Sam Missile battery.

F-4 Phantoms fly air support

This was Charles first Cy6 jet game and he was very excited to be flying being a USAF veteran but that excitement was soon dashed when his 1st Crusader took on medium AAA and exploded in mid air!

JD radioed in the kill an sent his Skyhawks in low to attack the SAM site which turned on the radar but his 1st missile malfunctioned and did not launch! Flying cover up high was Rob, and his weapons officer easily found a target and hoped to get a shot the next turn!

Turn three, Sergei being the veteran pilot he was quickly dodge the USN radar by flying out of the radar front zone…but the MiGs soon found that getting behind the USN jets to fire their heat seeking missiles was a tough task! The next turn "Stud Muffin 1" losing his eye on the AAA took a BIG hit and his F4 was last seen crashing into the rice paddies. Things were not looking good for the Navy and the GM wondered out loud if the AA was to tough for the scenario?

F4 goes down!

But the next turn brought revenge as JD who Air to ground missiles missed the last two turns was able to strafe the SAM battery killing it! The SAM was never able to maintain any radar contact and very launched a missile. Then Green Giant 2 knocked out MiG 21 with his cannon only to take an AAA hit causing slight engine damage (slowing his speed by 2 if memory is correct)

The battle swirled over Hanoi for a few more turns when all of a sudden Bama Boy swooped down strafing and killing a AAA site but his laughing quickly ended when a Mig 21 lunched a missile hitting him! Fortunately of the pilot from Birmingham only took "controls" damage …but he radios that is was to hot and he was heading back to the carrier. Sergei also launched a missile at a F4 but missed by a mile. Seeing the Skyhawks heading home Stud Muffin F4 still flying support was able to launch 2 missile in Thran's MiG 21 killing him! Green Giant also was able to fire his cannon and hit Sergei's MiG 21 damaging the cockpit and causing Sergei to "black out" for twit runs of flight (Special hit/damage chart)

Air war Cy6 style!

Final Kill count was 2ea MiG 21's (both NVA) 1ea SAM Battery and 1ea AAA site vs 1ea F8 Crusader and 1ea F-4 Phantom.

While the USN caused more damage the NVA Air force won a minor victory on points…the downed F-4 was worth a lot of VP's!

Authors Note: As one of the Communist pilots our Red Commisar would not allow me to publish any killed or destoryed MiG 21 photos. We will not allow the American propaganda machine to use them against us…LoL :)

Great game and AAR Ron;
The planes looked great and so does the game mat.
Did you make that mat or is it store bought.
Thanks
Joe
