Question for those of you that already have the new Wargames Factory AWI British AND Perry plastic AWI British. How do the heads of these figures compare size-wise? I mean would it be possible to cut of the Perry heads and replace them by the WF grenadier heads without making the figure look all out of proportion if you know what I mean? Never mind the missing match cords, I don't care. I want a battalion of plastic grenadiers! :-) Fons mmps.asia |

I think it would look okay, I can try it out for you. I may not get to it tonight though. |

Perry body with WGF Grenadier head, Perry British, WGF British.
Quick hack job, the shirt collar might take a little thought to get 'just right'. |

Excellent, thanks a million Dr Mathias! :-) Off to order some WGF
:-) Almost forgot, how many grenadier heads are there in a box of WGF? Cheers Fons mmps.asia |
Dr Mathias | 18 Jun 2014 11:06 p.m. PST |
I believe the WGF box has 23 grenadier heads, 30 bodies. |
Fonzie | 18 Jun 2014 11:13 p.m. PST |
Thank you, sounds good as I only need 23 heads. :-) Cheers, Fons mmps.asia |

I agree with Augie. He is really well painted with a lot of detail and shading. |

WGF for strapping grenadiers next to Perry for shortarse hat men could be a good look. |

Dr Mathias, care to share your colors and secret techniques especially for the red and flesh??? |
Dr Mathias | 29 Jun 2014 6:18 p.m. PST |
Sure. First off these guys are primed red oxide/rust color. For the skin on these figures I used: Games Workshop 'Tallarn Flesh' Games Workshop 'Cadian Fleshtone' 50/50 'Cadian Fleshtone' and Vallejo 'Basic Skintone' Then I do a thin wash of Games Workshop 'Ogryn Flesh' or 'Reiklander Skintone'. Then back to the 'Cadian Fleshtone', the 50/50 and then a final highlight with 'Basic Skintone'. I have a lot of paints, this is what I've been using lately as I phase out the GW. It's not too hard to find equivalents and I think one could skip the wash easy enough. For the red I used: GW 'Mechrite Red' or Privateer Press P3 'Skorne Red' GW 'Mephiston Red' or 'Red Gore' GW 'Evil Suns Scarlet' for highlight I think I used a GW Red wash of some sort to tie it all together, probably 'Baal Red'. I am just now trying the P3 colors, so far I like them, the red in particular. I also really like the GW Evil Suns Scarlet, it is my all time favorite red (which in general have low covering power). It's GW's best product. I'm starting to kick around the idea of doing some more legitimate tutorials. If you want to see an example of my process, here's a link. It's for African skin but is more or less the same technique, just different colors. link |

Are the Perry's uniform used later in the war? |
Supercilius Maximus | 22 Oct 2014 8:42 a.m. PST |
Brooklyn – see my answer to your last post on the other thread about uniforms. The WF figures are in the 1768 Warrant; the Perry figures are in the later, modified uniforms worn from mid-1776 onwards (apart from the occasional "fresh off the boat" replacement unit). |

Never mind the missing match cords, I don't care. I want a battalion of plastic grenadiers! :-) And so you shall, Fonzie. For in the year 1784, the decision was taken to abolish match cases on the grenadiers' cartridge box belts, due to them having been put into storage and not carried in the field for most of the American War. Anyone wanting to see how Perry and WF "mix 'n' match", try this thread on the Steve Dean Painting Forum and flip to the American figures at the bottom of Page 2:- link |
