During a visit to Navy Unit 167, Kim Jong Un was photographed underway on what appears to be 1950s era Project 633 diesel electric submarine — one of about 20 in the North Koreans fleet assembled domestically from Chinese parts based on a Soviet design

Doesn't look like they bothered. I can see plenty of surface rust. |

look at the handrail, globs of paint all over it. looks like a hasty paint job to cover up the worst with a realy cheap paint. |
Rhino Co | 17 Jun 2014 7:39 a.m. PST |
Unless it's CGI, the boat floats. I like the string holding the hand rail together

The guy on the talker is panicking because he just asked to submerge the sub. He is trying to explain they haven't put the screen doors back on yet. |

Wow, he DOES have a bad haircut. |

no.. that isn't string
the rope has just snapped.. (you know
the rope tied to the two hundred swimmers pulling the boat) |

If you look closely at the paint job, you can tell where they watered down the paint

Worth remembering that NK is one of only three countries whose submarines have sunk a ship in action since the end of WW2, and the only country to gave done so using a homing torpedo. |

Kim also reportedly provided instruction to the crew and, "set the course of the submarine to the captain and taught him a good method of navigation," according to KCNA. I like that this part of the story was beneath a picture of Lil'KJ pointing. That's some good navigatin'! |

I'm not an expert of anything, but don't submarines have hinged flip-over hatches? Or do they have sliding-door type hatches? If the former, I don't see one
I did, however, get great service from the two waiters in the picture the last time I was at a Korean restaurant. |

How dare you make fun of Dear Glorious Successor? This must be plot by imperialist pig-dogs and their thrice-cursed South Korean puppets! North Korea best Korea!!! |

The hatch is probably in the floor of the conning tower in this picture. The area where Lil Kim is standing is IIRC usually wet when underwater. Damon. |
Landorl | 17 Jun 2014 1:47 p.m. PST |
They removed all of the hatches because they can't get it to dive anyway

Mocking the glorious leader aside, one of these subs probably was responsible for sinking the SK ship a couple of years ago. |

The best part of the visit is when Li'l Kim walked up to the bow, stretched out his arms, and did his best Kate Winslet/Titanic impression: "I'm flying
