This book is part of the Officers and Soldiers series by Mongin from Histoire and Collections. If it is as good as the previous volumes it will have been worth waiting for. However, I note that Amazon is offering two sources one at almost £500.00 GBP and another at over £1,400.00 GBP I have ordered it elsewhere for £17.00 GBP
of course. I just wondered what the logic was for Amazon offering these prices. Any ideas? |

If someone is dumb enough
..that is how it works. Why not try the water and see if someone bites at that price? What is there to lose? There are folks to whom such sums are pocket money, but I doubt they are into Napoleonic Artillery. |

I've run across other items on Amazon that are the same way. Not entirely certain they have any intention of selling it or they made a mistake. Although, I did know a store owner who was trying to a sell an Osprey book with some misprint that was claiming it was worth hundreds of dollars. Thankfully when he died, the book was practically given away, thus proving his inflated ego quite wrong. |

It might depend on whether or not the book is hard back or paper. Second, in the used market of books, the seller can ask what they want. Hey, if someone is willing to pay that amount, more power to the seller. There have been times that I have taken personal stuff with me to the shows and have set out on my dealer table. I am conflicted about selling it, so I put a price on it almost three times what I normally sell items like for at the shows. Every time those items without a single person questioning the price. |

According to the Canadian Amazon the book hasn't even been released yet. So the question is who has a NEW one already and where did the USED one come from ?? All lies ? Anyway, I've heard rumours of book stores like Amazon using an automated system to price some out-of-print books that over-inflates their value like the Gribeauval book. I just bought a pocket book from my local Coles Books for $10.99 USD while the price for the same was $1,450.00 USD on Amazon ! |

Here is my question: Why does Amazon get blamed for the high prices, especially on used books? Are not used books sold either by individuals or used book stores? Now, I have talked to the gentleman that runs a used book store near me. He has pointed out that when he is in a second hand shop that sells books or a goodwill type store, he will often find individuals with very little knowledge of books, but have these hand held scanners or such devices in which they enter the books ISPN number. What he says they are looking for is the high priced book they market on either ebay or Amazon. He notes that they get rather up set when he starts to pull books left and right because he already knows what either sells or will sell depending on the topic and author. |
