A recent thread was started asking what the best approach was to painting diecasts for use in 15mm SF games TMP link

As I had some more of these to do, I thought I'd photograph the process and put my thoughts down.

It's in the 'How to Articles' hammers-slammers.com/how.htm on the Crucible site or directly here link

It goes from straight out of the bubble pack

to finished (well, finished enough for me, anyway!)

I hope you find it informative.

Indeed I do. Thank you very much.

I'm quite busy the next few weeks, but I can't wait to try these techniques.

I'll be working on aircraft (mostly as scenery) and a couple of vehicles for my Museum of Universal Concord engagements. I'll post some pics when I do.

Cheers.

Excellent tutorial (and you certainly have done a better job on this than I did!).

Thanks,

Pat

Who makes that fork lift?

I will presume to answer for Mr. Treadaway,

Matchbox.

Spot on Patrick. A whole one pound from my local pound shop. They are all sourced from there with some exceptions, which I'll list:

The low flying cars are (very old and now re-released) stuff from 15mm.co.uk: one is a four seater conversion.

The fire engine was gifted but – I think – still Matchbox.

The Police trucks are ebay finds but – again – orginally Matchbox: they have some that are very similar in my local pound shop at the moment, but not quite as nice, so I've left them. So, the Police trucks cost a little more than a pound (and have tribarrels added to the roof mounts: "protect and serve"!) but they're till, I think, Matchbox.

Finally, the hovercraft are very ancient Matchbox that were bought as almost trash on ebay which – along with the naff paint and stickers on them – is the main reason they got a 'proper' paint job: they were chipped to hell.

But all the rest re pound shop Matchbox: I hope that helps.

Thanks Patrick. I'll be sure to look for it in my next die cast foray. I've been finding MB stuff for 87 cents each! on the clearance rack! Thanks for listing the rest John.

JT you really do need to sculpt up a few tarps and get them into production, the long one on the roof of that first 4x4 in the forth photo down looks great.

@Avamango – thanks: that's not a bad idea.
