Aren't those great looking? I backed the kickstarter and got the whole shooting match of figures. I have half or more of the stuff i ordered and I am totally excited. It's great stuff. The detail on the figures is just stunning!

Just kind of curious, but with this and the various Clan War skeletal samurai, anyone know what specific myths they come from? I'm just kind of curious about that part of it

If nothing else, there's plenty of prints from the Edo period of skeleton figures, often as symbolism for plague or famine. I have some collections of Hokusai's drawings, and there's a few in there. Utagawa Kuniyoshi has a print that is very famous as well:
