Looking at the number of re-enactors, history buffs, and Wargame enthusiasts in Australia, Canada, Europe, US, UK and New Zealand perhaps the authorities should be worried ;-) |

It would have been cool if he ran the coupe dressed as a Napoleonic Russian colonel. |

Very cool. I used to do Soviet re-enacting. |

Looks to me like the author of the article can't read between the lines. This guy works for GRU, he's written papers on military history, and may be in Ukraine at the behest of the Russian government. The fact he's a re-enactor has nothing to do with anything, other than him honing his appreciation of history. |

" I used to do Soviet re-enacting." WW2 Soviets are also one of my impressions, albeit a secondary one. |

That is an awesome article! Strelkov is a fascinating figure. He's a complete media who's given dozens of interviews to various media outlets. An intersting take from a media organization. His past is hazy and warped by misinformation. It's hard to tell what's real and what's not. But let us tell you about it for several more pages
When showed pictures of Strelkov, they said they knew him, but as Girkin. He was supposedly mild-mannered and pleasant. So why the name change?
Because it's a common thing to do in his culture? Of course, it probably doesn't mesh well with the culture of the intended reading audience who thinks nothing about keeping the surname "Miller" because one of you great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfathers might have been one. Or apprenticed to one. Or moved into the old mill. The fact he's a re-enactor has nothing to do with anything, other than him honing his appreciation of history. Yes, but it is a non-mainstream hobby, so mentioning it alienates him (to some degree) from the reading public in general. Just, awesome! |

From Moscow, not Peter. Accused of war crimes in Chechnya in the mid-1990's (possibly true) while part of 45th separate guards special forces regiment (not true
. he couldn't have passed the first week of initial training). From FSB (part of the Ministry of the Interior), not GRU (part of the Army), specifically the FSB Service for Protection of the Constitutional System and the Fight against Terrorism (i.e., internal and near-abroad political intelligence and operations). They appear to be trying a "New Media" concept
. FSB 2.0 as it were. - Sasha |
