I would like to invite TMP readers with an interest in the Spanish Civil War to view the diaries online at merrimandiary.com The project is dedicated to Robert Hale Merriman and the two diaries he wrote while in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. These diaries provide insights into Merriman as well as many of the nearly 2,800 Americans who fought in Spain. This project presents Robert Merrimanfs two diaries at the pace they were written. The diaries are handwritten in an approximately 3.5 x 5.6 bound books. As Merrimanfs handwriting was dense and changed much over the year that it was written, a transcription is provided. A team of volunteers transcribed the diary and also provide a commentary for each of the postings. If you are not familiar with the history of the American volunteers in Spain the commentary will provide context. In that way, we hope you will learn about Spain, about this war, about the Americans involvement in fighting fascism and understand why we believe this diary is an important historical document that needs preservation and exposure to the public. ***Disclaimer, I have worked on the project assisting in documentary editing and providing biographical data on American volunteers. |

Yes, thank you! It is always great to get information direct. Some fascinating details. I may not have looked hard enough, but I didn't see any photos of Robert Hale Merriman himself. |
