Using Memoir 44 to play with my 15mm Quar and All Quiet on the Martian Front steam tanks? Not such a great idea after all

Very cool ideas! Don't be discouraged. |

I won't
Although I'll probably shelve the "using Memoir 44 for miniature gaming" part of it for now and look around for another system to use my 15mm minis. Problem is I can't seem to find the (highly subjective and personal) sweet spot
What I'd like: - Platoon with a couple of vehicles sized armies - Half-squad or fire team basing - Low crunchiness of the basic system (ideally: single roll to attack, no to-hit/to-wound/save nonsense) - Simulates friction (and ideally some fog of war) - Lots of room for additional rules for specific situations but without making the think to complicated. - Tools for unit and/or scenario building. |

Ihmn has single dice hit/kill system. It also has very simple vehicle rules. Single figure basing, but it might be adaptable. |

IHMN is based on ITEN, isn't it? ITEN is actually two rolls for an attack: D6 + attacker SV + weapon modifier vs. target Armour to hit and then target Grit roll to wound
Is it different in IHMN? But yes, ITEN and FUBAR are about the complexity level I'm looking for as framework

I've meant to take a good look at KR16 for a while! Not sure about how it would work with multiple minis on a single base though
Lots of people say that this or that single based miniatures games can be used with multiple based minis by "just considering one base is X or Y miniatures and noting down each base casualties on a piece of paper"
It's kind of not the point though! |

Hail of Fire link Both KR 16 and HoF have roots in FUBAR and are simple to learn. If KR doesn't work for you, maybe HoF will as it's fire-team based and simulates pseudo fog of war on the table. It does use two rolls to resolve most shooting though. |

I'm not anal about the single roll to resolve everything but it's a case of every little complexity brings down the fluidity of a game and without knowing it we're over the (ok, my personal) limit! Never heard of HoF, we'll take a look at it too! |

Chain of Command? It does have two rolls for fire (hits/effect) but this makes i easier to handle troop effectiveness/cover on a D6. And it certainly has friction and fog of war. Supported platoon, action by teams/squads, and a campaign module. |

Is that the new Too Fat Lardies WW2 game? I loved some of the concept of their Q13 game (a company level sci-fi game based on their WW2 IABSM): the card driven activation is definitely something I'll shamelessly copy if and when I write my own rules and I enjoyed the use of blinds too, but the core "shooting at things" rules where way too complicated for my taste
In fact I reviewed the book on Dropship Horizon: link Guess I'll have to give CoC a look too

While I haven't played CoC yet, I've been painting Quar for it. While I'm probably going to do actual WWII someday, I'm painting other figures now, so want to use what I have, and the rules look fun. I've got a thread about it on the Zombiesmith forum. A Quar "section" is two squads, and a company is two sections. So my "platoon" for CoC will be a Quar section, so I'll probably want to bump up support a bit. An extra squad of support will make it about same as a real WWII platoon. andy |
