I´ve played my first game using Kings of War rules. You can find the AAR (Bretonnia Vs Vampire Counts) on my blog: link

Really enjoy the game, I think thera are some interesting ideas on that rules.

Cheers.

Nice writeup and pretty figures! Glad you enjoyed it, our club also has had a great time with it.

As to your issue with the extreme IGOUGO nature of it, I agree that it is definitely the weak point of the game. However, after a few games you may find that turns go so quickly that it doesn't seem like such a burden.

You could simply change it to IMOVE-UMOVE and then have simultaneous shooting/combat/morale. I honestly think that is the best way to handle this sort of game.

Armies of Arcana, an early and popular WFB alternative, introduced simultaneous combat in an effort to balance out the wild swings of charges and first attacks.

Of course, KoW's use of unit damage rather than figure removal counteracts this problem in and of itself.

I have thought about introducing some randomness, maybe via unit-by-unit card activation, into the turn sequence as an improvement to KoW. The base game rules are so tight and clean that it is an appealing system to use as a baseline.

Beautifully painted miniatures and I enjoyed the AAR. Thank you for sharing.
