I thought I'd get in here fast to mention the 'Nickstarter' pre-order program for the new Pirate game and figures coming in August before Armand. Nope, too slow, he's here already. You know when you've been Tango'd. YouTube link Anyway, the figures will be ready to pre-order in the next day or so, I'll do a proper Hobby News story for it, with details how you can get the free figures etc.

And that commercial brings back memories. Very nice figures. |

my pay pal senses a disturbance in its balance! |

What an interesting beverage -- Tango! I've never seen it this side of the pond. I wonder how it would be as an accompaniment to a double-portion of Grey Goose vodka or Bacardi 151? Perhaps it would be best on its own, if those commercials tell the true story. |
Maddaz111 | 10 Jun 2014 3:18 p.m. PST |
no – they don't tell the full story
I think it is a fizzy orange pop
with no redeeming features like flavour or taste. Perfect for our uncultured masses
here in sunny old England! |

What is The Nickstarter deal – ?? (I have looked at the Home page of Northstar
. and I am not sure
) |
Hitman | 10 Jun 2014 8:38 p.m. PST |
I too checked it out and it seems that if you order everything at full price you get 5 free figures??? Then you have to pay for shipping and the exchange rate as well. At least that is what I am getting from Northstar Miniatures website
but I could be wrong

Will Lon handle the U.S. side? |

I posted about this on my blog! link |
NickNorthStar | 11 Jun 2014 6:00 a.m. PST |
Whoa Hitman, it says in big letters POST FREE WORLD-WIDE for the I Want It All deal. The whole thing isn't announced yet, we'll do that tomorrow I hope, Kev's putting the final touches to it now. I have to say, we're not discounting the product. Hitman is right, the deals include free figures not discounts. I'm hoping the quality of Steve Saleh's work will attract you to buy these figures, not the bargain prices. If you're looking for cheaper options, the Artizan Design pirates and Crusader Miniatures pirates are very nice and cheaper. Lon at Brigade will have the new figures, including the free figure deals, so to save yourself the worry of international shipping and poor exchange rates, go with him. Cheers Nick Tango is like Fanta Orange. That advert had been on my mind from the first time Armand posted, and as his controversy grew, I kept thinking of the catch phrase. |
Disco Joe | 11 Jun 2014 6:09 a.m. PST |
The figures look great Nick but the one is defintely R-rated
.no children allowed. Glad to hear that Lon will be carrying them here in the states. |
NickNorthStar | 11 Jun 2014 6:33 a.m. PST |
Hey Joe, we took her from history you know. Ok, the original sketch may not have her quite so curvy, but ours is a modern interpretation
|
Disco Joe | 11 Jun 2014 6:49 a.m. PST |
Personally I don't have any problem with it Nick but nowadays everyone is concerned with what is acceptable for children and what is not. That is the only reason I mentioned it. Now will there be any ships and buildings coming out by other companies working with you or not? |
Timmo uk | 11 Jun 2014 8:43 a.m. PST |
I have got to paint that Captain Hook figure. These look great fun. |
Timmo uk | 11 Jun 2014 10:50 a.m. PST |
Ah – I've just seen the price £23.00 GBP for 8 figures
|
NickNorthStar | 11 Jun 2014 1:13 p.m. PST |
We don't have any specific company working with us on ships and buildings yet, but I raised the question on Facebook about whether people would be interested in ships like this:
The link to my Facebook page and my question is here: link Can people who are not signed up for Facebook see it? |
lou passejaire | 11 Jun 2014 1:37 p.m. PST |
yes we can see it
It's a beautiful modelship, but
i am not sure about playability of this kind of model
too much rigging
that's a *ing problem to have quite accurate modelships still usable as "terrain" . |
NickNorthStar | 11 Jun 2014 3:49 p.m. PST |
Oh, there's no way you can play a game on the deck |
Henry Martini | 11 Jun 2014 10:57 p.m. PST |
Any chance of some details of the basics of the game's mechanics, Nick? Is it derived from Mr Peers' earlier skirmish rules family('A Good Day to Die' etc.), or something entirely new? |
NickNorthStar | 11 Jun 2014 11:40 p.m. PST |
Sorry I don't know. Because it's an Osprey Publication, I've not been involved with the actual game. I know the Osprey guys frequent Lead Adventure Forum, there might be some conversation there. I suspect it is new though. Chris has definitely moved away from his earlier HLBS published rule systems. |
lou passejaire | 11 Jun 2014 11:45 p.m. PST |
Mister Nick, can we have a chance to see OTTS05 – 18th Century Sailors before ordering ( even 2 or 3 pics of greens will do, for me ). I'm not a citizen of the United States of America, so if i don't have any problems with miss Anne Bonny :) , i'm not interested in Cartoon
I want to be sure to order sailors not too cartoonish :o) |
lou passejaire | 12 Jun 2014 3:58 a.m. PST |
as said by NickNorthStar some informations about the rules given by Phil Smith, Games Manager, Osprey Publishing, on the lAF : link |
Disco Joe | 12 Jun 2014 5:23 a.m. PST |
Nick, interested in the ship? Yes. Able to spend that much on it? No. It is beautiful but at that price I would expect it to be fully painted and all the decks open to play below deck and of course all the rigging on it. And even then it is way to expensive considereing you would need at least 2 ships if you are going against another crew or against a specific government's navy which makes me wonder what actions are listed in the rule book. |
lou passejaire | 12 Jun 2014 5:31 a.m. PST |
Disco Joe , from Lead Adventure Forum From the author's introduction:Model ships or smaller vessels, if these are to be used in your game. An enjoyable game can be had between purely land-based forces, but fights at sea will be an important part of many pirate scenarios, and battles between and on board ships are fully catered for in the rules.
from Phil Smith Games Manager, Osprey Publishing :The naval rules use the same base system as the land combat, and equipment options can have no effect ashore, but a boon on ship. Likewise, certain model characteristics might place them at an advantage or disadvantage on board ship – it's a pretty integrated system! The focus is on pirate/naval crews, rather than on fleets of ships, but it is just as easy to run a game with two ships dueling broadsides before closing to board as it is a skirmish in the streets of Havana – and once it comes down to boarding, with allowances for the different 'terrain', the same system is used. The largest ship covered in the rules is one with a nominal crew of 60 (plus 12 swivel guns and 12 cannon). This could represent a brig, brigantine, dhow, junk or a small frigate, depending on your interpretation – but bearing in mind that the average crew size is c.15 men (broadly speaking, it's a 1:5 figure ratio and a 1:2.5 gun ratio), you're looking at a pretty formidable beast. On the flip side, the smallest vessel covered is a row boat. There are even rules for sharks, alligators etc. should your crew end up in dangerous waters! The core system is d10 driven, and based around two main motivations – Fear and Greed – that drive a crew forwards (or backwards). Captains have a number of activation options with which to affect these two drives, by encouraging or exhorting their crew, or threatening the enemy, for example. Fear represents, naturally, the crew's (dis)inclination to stay and fight, while Greed is their drive to take risks in the pursuit of wealth, glory or whatever. Greed is not always good – it can lead to crews dashing off and leaving themselves unable to respond to enemy actions, so Captains will need to carefully weigh the pros and cons of a more cautious or more aggressive approach. This is a system designed to keep crews of rough, argumentative and ill-disciplined pirates in a state of constant nervous tension, befitting the genre – but it might not be for everyone, so the author outlines an alternate option that offers increased control over crews, simply by increasing the chances of Captains being able to affect Fear and Greed. Other tidbits
4 Captain-only personality characteristics 7 other personality characteristics 13 missile weapons, from pistol to powdered lime 5 classes of melee weapon 4 ship types A basic campaign system 12 faction lists, from Sea Dogs to Cimaroons And my personal favourite:
'Fire and Smoke' – a guide to setting things on fire I hope that helps somewhat. As I've said before, please feel free to ask any questions you like, and I'll do my best to answer them.
Cheers!

Thanks lou that does help. |
NickNorthStar | 12 Jun 2014 6:23 a.m. PST |
OTTS05 isn't even made yet, sorry. We will be using Osprey Illustrations such as this as inspiration:
Copyright Osprey Publications. We won't be making the captain in the fur cap. The idea with OTTS05 is to be historically correct early 18th Century sailors, no big hats or eye patches, and these you can use to bulk up your factions, both Navy and Pirates. |
Henry Martini | 12 Jun 2014 7:27 a.m. PST |
Thanks for the info, Lou. I do like the very precise focus on motivating factors that give the era a distinct identity; they should really help to set it apart from any old run-of-the-mill black powder skirmish game. I'm now very much looking forward to its release. |
Captain Gamma | 12 Jun 2014 8:17 a.m. PST |
I love the look of these. Nick, are the 5 free figures with the "I want it all" deal only ever going to be available through the Nickstarter? Or are they going to available to buy at a later date? |
lou passejaire | 12 Jun 2014 8:24 a.m. PST |
i love the idea of generic sailors |
Fierios | 15 Jun 2014 5:43 a.m. PST |
Nick at North Star, If I order the " I want it all deal now" , it is free shipping worldwide? What if I order that and several other of the Osprey figure sets
.all free shipping? How about if I also order some Crusader pirates as well
still all free?? Is there any needed gluing with the sets from Osprey? Thanks, Larry Buck |
NickNorthStar | 15 Jun 2014 7:20 a.m. PST |
I think the free figures will be available sometime in the future, not before November though. Hi Larry, normally it's just the 'I Want it All' that's post free, but we can do you a deal. Mostly the Osprey figures are one piece castings, metal based as well. The Pirates are all one piece. |
Fierios | 15 Jun 2014 5:39 p.m. PST |
Thanks Nick, OK if I order "I WANT IT ALL" deal and 3 extra sets from this same range, and 3 or 4 Crusader pirate sets and I live in the USA
.What would my cost be in dollars not Pounds? How about if I also added 4 0r 5 sets from the Oriental range as well? I saw where you could wait to deduct our money at a later date after we order, I would like to pay in late July when I get paid. Let me know/ Thanks again, Larry Buck |
Fierios | 15 Jun 2014 5:41 p.m. PST |
ps Nick, Would I get extra free figures for the 3 0r 4 extra sets of figures? Larry |
