… in Great Britain.

"Two B-2 stealth bombers from the U.S. Air Force's 509th Bomb Wing in Missouri flew to the U.K. on June 8, joining three B-52s for what the Pentagon is calling a "short-term deployment."

The U.S. military insists the bomber deployments don't have anything to do with Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula and Moscow's support for Ukrainian separatists. But American officers have implied that Moscow should take note.

"The training and integration of strategic forces demonstrates to our nation's leaders and our allies that we have the right mix of aircraft and expertise to respond to a variety of potential threats and situations," said Adm. Cecil Haney, commander of U.S. Strategic Command…"

That's a lot of ordinance – B-52 = 13 tons , B-2 = 50 tons, IIRC … evil grin

No one is going to be stupid enough to use then over Ukraine?

I'm surprised that they'd pre-deploy B-2s overseas, given how few of them we own, and how much they cost.

Seems like a ripe target for a guerrilla attack by a few men, or a squad, or two of jihadis.

Good luck with that Mako. I would imagine that there's at least a battalion's worth of troops guarding the things with some special forces units in reserve… just in case. Plus you have the entire RAF to fly CAP! Not to mention having the British Army, SAS, and even RM's on call.

I would say that our bombers are quite safe.

My personal problem is that this "Special Bomber Strike Force" consists of exactly 5 aircraft.. yeah. And the B-2 has about a 40% readiness rating compared to 70% for the B-52. That means we MIGHT have one Spirit and up to two B-52s operational. Not much of a strike force IMO.

Mako, just how lawless do you think Britain is that a squad or two of jihadists could carry out a strike like that?

Very. Have you ever seen Manchester? :P
