Did it stay with the parent unit? |
Supercilius Maximus | 09 Jun 2014 10:35 a.m. PST |
Yes, it did. The German grenadier battalion under Breymann that fought in Burgoyne's army was composed of the four Brunswick companies only. (From the way you worded the question, I assume you know that the Regiments was NOT uniformed as/composed entirely of grenadiers, as some people think.) |

Yes, was a Musketier Battalion as far as I know. ie. cocked hats. |

Any ideas where I can find a good illustration of a grenadier from this regiment showing front and back if possible? |

From Funcken. Front row are Brunswick. Back row is Hesse Hanau. |

CMH plate # 7 is for the Hesse-Hanau Erb Prinz Regiment showing a grenadier. |

I think the Hanau lion faced the other way from the Cassel lion – the rulers were nephew and uncle, I believe, and thoroughly detested each other (that's not why the lions were facing opposite directions, though). |

Father and Son. Hesse Hanau rejoined Hesse Kassel when the son got his inheritence. |

This is an interesting topic. How many other Hessian battalions kept their grenadier companies? |
Tom Collins | 10 Jun 2014 12:13 p.m. PST |
No other Hessian or Brunswick Regiment kept their Grenadier companies, except the standing Grenadier Regiment Rall which was made up of 5 ordinary grenadier companies and it provided it's 6th.elite right flank company to the converged grenadier battalion Kohler. The other German regiments from Ansbach-Bayreuth, Anhalt Zeberst and Waldeck did have their grenadier companies remain with their respective regiments. PVT641 – your welcome. |
