What rules would you suggest for 28mm skirmish -type games involving Neanderthals, Hom Sap, and late Ice age beasties ?

TIA

Try Chain Reaction and Swordplay (yeah, I'm a fan). It's free, so if you like the system then you can add Legends in the Lost Lands. Covers dinosaour hunts, but I'm pretty sure it also covers big cats, apes, etc. If it doesn't, it won't be hard to add in.

I think that should be "Adventures" in the Lost Lands.
But agree, try out Chain Reaction, and add Lost Lands :)
It has australopithecus, Neanderthal, Cro Magnon, some dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals, straight-up prehistoric games or lost-world type games. You can do one-off battles or long campaigns (almost RPG lite really.)

Song of Blades and Heroes does this nicely, too.

Tusk from Irregular Miniatures would be good as it includes the use of fire, pits etc… as weapons :D Like Green Tiger says above it was designed for 15mm but works fine in any scale.

I've heard Gangland by Wessex and B'Hoys by TVAG as good rules to use as a basis for stone age warfare rules…
