I'm getting some Model Air for my new airbrush, and I was looking at the modulation kits that Vallejo do.

The British 'Bronze Green' set I understand is actually a post war colour scheme, despite it being demonstrated on the box being applied to a Cromwell. I also dont like the 8mm bottles at a seriously premium price.

As I understand it I need SCC15 for this period, which is almost US Olive Drab. Any suggestions for something to use straight from the bottle, perhaps with a highlight colour to go on top.

This is for 1/72 wargame models…… 6 layers of modulation is not required!

Thanks,

I use Tamiya NATO Green over black and add Tamiya Yellow to highlight up with the airbrush…

Vallejo WW2 Russian Uniform also seems to be popular.

A tried and true formula someone suggested on here ages ago. 50/50 mix of Vallejo 888 Olive Grey and 924 Russian Uniform. What's nice is Vallejo makes a large mixing bottle with a flip top lid that holds two of their standard bottles. So just empty the two bottles in, automatically have the right mixture and ready to go for future projects as well.

Personally, I'd go with Piers recommendations for the Tamiya colours. They spray beautifully, well diluted with IPA. Having seen Piers images posted here, the finished effect is extremely pleasing.
The Vallejo's are more suited for brush painting as they have a reputation for clogging on the needle.
Try it yourself & draw your own conclusions !

Good Luck.

I do xf 62 over xf 9 bases coat, washed with vallejo sepia them highlight with xf 62 lighten with some sand or desert yellow then with a fine brush do panel work outline with the vallejo sepia then dust up with some earth and deck tan all Tamiya all through an airbrush. I thin with de mineralised water.

Love that sherman. The dust effect is perfect.

For those who do spray Tamiya paints, and I do, a tip I picked up from the guys like me who also do the 1/35 scale stuff. Thin with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, not their acrylic thinner. Works like a charm!

Is that Sherman dust paint, or pigment please?
