Bill, Please do whatever needs to be done to get it working. "Tango" is once again taking over the front page! Nick |

Please define EXACTLY which of his posts do not belong on TMP. I see none that should not be there based on content. ALL are relevant, and we now have a 400 count front page. So quit bugging Dear Editor. Remember how badly it screwed up everybody's TMP last time? I can wait for TMP 4.36 or whatever. |
nnascati | 07 Jun 2014 1:56 p.m. PST |
Winston, he is posting a lot of stuff that has already been posted first of all, and again its just too much. |
highlandcatfrog | 07 Jun 2014 1:59 p.m. PST |
TMP 4.0 can wait. Getting the ignore function working is far more important. |
Toronto48 | 07 Jun 2014 2:09 p.m. PST |
Please add ignore even if it is only to stop all the complaining |
Frothers Did It And Ran Away | 07 Jun 2014 2:53 p.m. PST |

nnascati I'll be the first to Ignore you, get real !!! |
Ed Mohrmann | 07 Jun 2014 3:10 p.m. PST |
Some folks apparently had problems when 'ignore' was functioning, some did not. I had no problems, myself. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 07 Jun 2014 3:11 p.m. PST |
Please do whatever needs to be done to get it working. I hear you! |
Sparker | 07 Jun 2014 3:13 p.m. PST |
I did have problems with my whole front page disappearing. Easily fixed by 'ignoring' someone, I forget who at the time, some objectionalble intolerant ignoramous. But if the same problem and fix are required again, at least now thanks to the OP I have a new candidate to ignore, and I don't mean my mate Tango! |
kallman | 07 Jun 2014 3:14 p.m. PST |
You know you can find the topics you are interested in by taking the time to look through the message boards. |
McWong73 | 07 Jun 2014 3:30 p.m. PST |
Sounds like Bill is on it. These discussions usually end the same way, so if all of us gently back away now we can make this one different. |
Mako11 | 07 Jun 2014 3:39 p.m. PST |
A shame so many people now have no self-control. I mean, really, how difficult is it to just ignore posts by those you don't like, or have no interest in? A sign of the times, apparently. |
Broglie | 07 Jun 2014 3:39 p.m. PST |
I supported nnascati above and picked up another 2 ignores and another 2 stifles. For the record I have neither ignored nor stifled anyone not even Tango although I do support both options. Seems that those who do not support the ignore button are doing the most ignoring. |
kallman | 07 Jun 2014 3:50 p.m. PST |
Broglie you based that upon what evidence/information, do you assume that because you picked up a couple of stifle/ignores that you are sample group? |
Broglie | 07 Jun 2014 3:57 p.m. PST |
I had 2 less stifles and 2 less ignores and after I posted above I had 2 more. As I haven't posted in days I can only assume it was because of this. I have noticed this trend before. I did not claim to be a sample group – I never even thought of it that way. |
RInhoff | 07 Jun 2014 4:10 p.m. PST |
Just assign everyone a maximum number of posts that would include starting threads and responses to threads. Everyone has the same amount, say 35 posts a day. Then we will all be equal and peace will ring throughout the valleys. Or something. |
streetline | 07 Jun 2014 4:11 p.m. PST |
Tango" is once again taking over the front page! he is posting a lot of stuff that has already been posted first of all, Some people have no sense of irony. |
nnascati | 07 Jun 2014 4:20 p.m. PST |
Broglie, I picked up several new stifles and several ignores as well. |
kallman | 07 Jun 2014 4:21 p.m. PST |
I understand Broglie but I was vocal against the ignore option and picked up more stifles/ignores so that kind of goes counter to your logic. Sadly no particular faction has a monopoly on this silliness. Streetlline, so true, so true. (sigh) |
VonTed | 07 Jun 2014 4:23 p.m. PST |
Can we add a filter to ignore all the "fix ignore" posts? |
Arteis | 07 Jun 2014 4:54 p.m. PST |
Can we add a filter to ignore all the "fix ignore" posts? In other words, Von Ted, you want an Ignore – albeit aimed a little differently. After all, the Ignore is merely a filter. I find it odd that those who say you can simply ignore things you don't like by having the self-control to not read them, seem to be unable to do so when it comes to 'fix the Ignore function' threads or similar. |
kallman | 07 Jun 2014 6:58 p.m. PST |
And I picked up 3 more ignores and 3 more stifles, I wonder what they are afraid they might learn if they read my threads and posts? |

Hi, 60% of those who voted for the ignore function voted yes, a very clear majority, so I think it should be restored. Whether you choose to use it or not it is a useful option to have. The 400 post front page option is good too and for me both features gave me a Miniatures page the way I wanted it. I do think though that it needs a better name and that the number of ignores and stifles shouldn't be counted in a person's profile. Things should be kept as anonymous and impersonal as possible and that might mitigate some of the acrimony we've had on TMP of late. If we have the means to configure TMP exactly as we like then there should be no problem with what people post and they can post what they like. All the best, George. |
Winston Smith | 08 Jun 2014 5:03 a.m. PST |
What annoys me is that we have seen what happens. You got half of what you wanted with the 400 thread front page. Now you DEMAND the whole ball of wax. Dear Editor MUST drop whatever he is doing, so you can "ignore " what someone else writes. So what if it messes things up. Don't throw that "more than 60%" nonsense at me. We all that multiple sock puppet accounts voted there and that 60% is a tiny fraction of the accounts on TMP. Any stats are meaningless. |
Buckeye AKA Darryl | 08 Jun 2014 5:38 a.m. PST |
I just do not want to have to sift through numerous posts cluttering the front page, most of which are things most of us know about already, and several of which have already been mentioned as news items. Makes it far more difficult to find items I truly want to see/read. And, even if I go directly to the message boards the posts, (due to the amount of posts and cross-posting of same) are still there in large numbers, and I still have to sort through the chaff to find items I actually care about. It is a pain to have to have the main page filled with a dozen or more items, trying to find an item or two that might catch the eye mixed in with the crud. I have NO problems with Tango as a person, but filling up the main page just to increase post count and sharing items that for the most part are not new topics is reducing the amount of time I spend on TMP because of increased frustration. I also ignored another person who asks some of the silliest questions I have seen, like "would these bottle caps look good as alien spaceships?" Who cares? If you want to use bottle caps as space ships, just do it! I liked the ignore function, it worked for me once I figured out the little bug, and I didn't have to sort through "junk" posts in the hopes I find something of use. Go ahead, stifle and ignore me for having an opinion. |
Paint Pig | 08 Jun 2014 5:54 a.m. PST |
My pooter worked just fine so reinstall the ignore. Hehehehe, so I dont have to ignore (think about it, it is subtle) all the complaints from those who's pooters failed to poot tmp properly. regards dave |

I hope you count this particular thread as one of those "useless" posts you'd rather not have to scroll through to reach the items only "You" care to read!! |
Pijlie | 08 Jun 2014 11:15 p.m. PST |
I too plead for restoring the Ignore function and am glad to read that the Ed is already on it. I really miss not having to wade through Tango's posts. |
Arteis | 09 Jun 2014 2:11 a.m. PST |
I hope you count this particular thread as one of those "useless" posts you'd rather not have to scroll through to reach the items only "You" care to read!! On the other hand, I wish you could count this particular thread as one of those "useless" posts you can scroll past without any Ignore function to reach the items "you" care to read!! Why do some people feel others shouldn't be able to configure TMP to suit what they care to read? After all, hasn't the early internet concept of 'getting pushed what others think you want' been replaced in modern social media by 'pulling what you want off the internet'? |
etotheipi | 09 Jun 2014 2:44 a.m. PST |
After all, hasn't the early internet concept of 'getting pushed what others think you want' been replaced in modern social media by 'pulling what you want off the internet'? The early concept of the Internet (ARPANet) was, and always has been, in fact, to pull what you want. The concept of social media is that someone else has to do it for you, that is, I'm not responsible to filter content, the provider is. You have had the ability to tailor your experience of TMP since it started: python.org/download link smalltalk.org/main swi-prolog.org TMP is much easier to do this with than many "social media" sites.

Out of the 400 posts he only has 114. |
Bandit | 09 Jun 2014 7:28 a.m. PST |
And by that logic, I don't read and am not interested in ~90% of the posts on TMP, so they should all disappear so they don't get in the way of the 10% I'm really excited about right? TMP should read my mind and know which I'd like. I want the "predict my interests correctly function" added. Cheers, The Bandit |
