en voyant la Anne Bonny de North Star ( cherchez pas, la fig est pas encore en vente ) Here's a thought Tango, how about you post about figures that are being sold, books that have been published (recently!), etc. |

I have read that AB was a pretty homely skank. And even if she were not, would she really have her tatas hanging out like that ? Not every female in history was a Ren-Faire tart. |

Is there any reason to suppose that these engravings are more than an imaginative interpretation by the artist? |

Nice painting and nice figure
but would Ann Bonney really have had her boobies flapping in the wind ?? I always thought that she tried to hide her female atributes. But I may be wrong!!!! |

link Not pirates but from a little early in colonial history, here is an interesting study between Woodcuts down in Europe by De Bry from Watercolors done by John White in New World. Left me thinking that woodcuts seldom capture the living figure (probably due to the medium). Wouldn't be interesting to compare the real Bonny to woodcut (assuming it was derived from a contemporaneous painting and not pure conjecture) to see if the likeness is as distorted and conversely the real Bonny to the well-endowed miniature? OBTW, I suspect that Bonny kept the goods covered with rare exception. Lost Pict |
