Last night I got in my first game against a summoning Daemons army. The battle report and thoughts are here:

Great write-up and cool looking game!!! Thanks for posting that ;)

Dear Sir:

I am deeply offended by your post. It is deeply lacking in anger, negativity and resentment. Further, you have the temerity to post a battle report of the dastardly 7th edition that looked like a highly enjoyable game. Finally, you even made demon summoning look like it is not broken. For shame, sir, for shame.

Sincerely,

Professional Whiny Haters Club

The figures in that battle report appear to be fully painted. As such I am not convinced that a game of 40k was actually played. Where are the primer legions, the silver hordes, the basecoated barbarians?

Just kidding, looks like a great game!

is 7e the one from Dark Venegence or is GW releasing another revised version?

@Jim Selzer

7E is the new official GW 40K product.

I'll let someone with more intimate familiarity discuss if its truly a 'new' edition, or a tweaked up 6th.

Hi,

In many ways it is similar to 6th edition with a few changes and/or additions. For example, vehicle armor penetration has changed a bit making vehicles in some cases a bit more durable. The psychic phase had been changed, too. There are other tweaks, but in my opinion, it is not too different than 6th. Call it edition 6.5 if you want ;)

We have enjoyed it so far. I guess I should add that our group is not made up of tournament players. If you read forums that are more focused on the tournament scene, there is more negativity or, maybe better said, more issues with the rules. I'm good with them as is.

For what it is worth…

Take care :)

I agree with Sealion, it's basically 6.5 edition. At first I was annoyed that GW put out essentially a tweaking just two years after the last main book, but now I think it was a good move. Vehicles I think are actually in a really good place, balanced between too strong (5e) and too weak (6e). The much better rules for buildings from the Stronghold Assault expansion got incorporated, and D weapons from the Escalation expansion got incorporated but in a much better and reasonable form. Shooting is a little different but I think is actually the most intuitive algorithm yet. The psychic phase is very different, but it's actually pretty straightforward. Army construction can be done traditionally or you can basically just do whatever you want. So, anybody who played in 6th edition should be pretty comfortable to just step into this one.

For what it's worth, I have a little writeup here on how shooting changed and some of the implications:

It's actually interesting to look at even just from a game design perspective, not just the impact on playing 40k.
