Hey,

I posted a link the other day in the 28mm forum, but I have recently realized the battle report should have gone here. Anyway, if you are interested in a short write-up with photos of our game, please check it out here link

Looks good, my son and I have had some really fun games using 40k figures and the Tomorrow's War rules.

I have them but I am bit intimidated by the rule book. Are they relatively easy to grasp?

Hey,

We started TW by using the scenarios as is straight out of the rule book. We also stayed with the basics and did not include many "extra" rules. Once you get a few games in it begins to flow better. Our group tries to be very specific when calling out actions so the opposition can easily decide if they want to react or not.

One thing we did notice was the difference between the levels of dice. A D8 vs. D10, for example, is heavily in the D10 favor. So we always try to balance the units with more troops for the lower dice level.

It will be fine once you give it a go.

This quick reference sheet may help, too.

Oh thx!

that is a fine point that Sealion makes about the troop quality die difference being significant in how the units perform. Also difference in tech level will weigh heavily against the lower level tech force. Tomorrow's War is a scenario driven game. So finding balance in the forces and their respective victory conditions is key to a good game.

The rule book is kind of intimidating but as stated start small and work your way up. The scenarios in the rule book are not as balanced as they could be in particular the one that introduces the tank rules. There is really no way the PDRG can win that one against the United States Marines. But it plays real fast so you can switch sides for the second game.

Tomorrow's War is by far one of my favorite set of rules. Once you understand the mechanics this is a game system that really engages players. You will not be sitting around waiting for your turn because reaction tests are critical to the tactics of the game. So you have to pay attention.

Really cool battle, it seems to me like tomorrows war is better for 40k than the original rules..

I have read others' comments (and some in our group, too) about how it seems like TW's rules can simulate the 40K fluff better than the 40K rules. I think there is some truth to it if you spend the time to address the stats properly/carefully for the various races and equipment.

Thanks for the kind words, too ;)
