I know…ME…go figure huh?

Sigh…I did what some people, (ie: "Most of you TMP'ers") think it idiotic and just downright "Stupid"…

I made a count and inventoried my 28mm figs…

Here's how it went….

This past weekend I was on a painting roll…I've been neck deep in painting up Bob Murch Pulp Figs and others, and having a great time seeing the pile of figs that are waiting patiently in my "Please Paint Me" Queue, to be done and placed in my "Completed" box….
Saturday saw me getting my Female Nazi's done, and some other figs done…I was ready to do it on Sunday….

Sunday comes and I sit down to it…Turn around to open the stuffed drawer of 28mm figs and something inside of me says "You really need to find out what you have and how many"….

So I sighed and started taking them out and moving towards the kitchen table to count them.

My wife (Gawd bless her!), looks at me and says "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to get a count and inventory of my 28mm figs." I tell her in my "matter-of-fact" tone that we, as men, are known to have….

She looked at me for a moment and simply said, "That's crazy talk."

Indeed she is right…

So I sat down and started counting….messed up…and started again….added wrong and started a third time…..

So…right now in terms of unpainted 28mm figs, my APPROXIMATE Count is…

761

This is broken down as follows:
1: Misc: 11
2: Gangsters: 21
3: Pirates: 173
4: VSF/Colonials: 37
5: Cowboys/Old West: 156
6: Sci-Fi: 27
7: Pulp: 123
8: Horror: 73
9: Fantasy: 44
10: WWII: 11
11: 18th Century: 69
12: Cannons: 10

Note that this does NOT include ANY of my Starship Troopers Minis, my LOT5R/Clan War demons, My 2 odd dozen fantasy figures boxes in my office, or the approx 250 Pirates I bought when Wargames LLC started their sale….

I then told my wife that "In the near future, I am going to do the same with my 15mm figs"….

She smiled at me that sad, loving, knowing smile, that a parent gives a small child to reassure them, and said "Yes…I know you will…"

And to show y'all that A: It REALLY happened, and B: What I looked like during it….here's photo of the occasion, (take by my wonderful wife)…..

You are a VERY, VERY fortunate man to have an angel as a wife. This could've gone so horribly wrong!

Sheesh!!! You need to wise up buddy and fast or this could get real ugly!

Happily, my wife has no real interest in the hobby, and isn;t home when the mail comes. :)

You have a very perceptive wife… As for inventorying your lead, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????

Brian Bronson04 Jun 2014 5:57 p.m. PST

Now that you know how much unpainted lead you have, you know how long you have to live.

You poor sap!

I know man…I dunno what happened…it sounded like a good idea at the time….You know…"the road to hell", and all of that….

sigh…sorry…I'll try harder next time….

Murpy here is what happens next, you will now feel compelled to either, a)start selling off some of this collection or, b) realize where you have gaps and feel to the need to buy more.

I don't dare.

I'm retired.

Even I don't have that kind of time.

Foolish, foolish man.

I keep a running total of all of my purchases and painted figures with the notable exception of my original GW IG and Skaven hoard. That gives me a nice buffer against knowing how long I have left.

Winston0104 Jun 2014 6:39 p.m. PST

Long ago a fellow wargaming friend told me a true wargamer would always have twice as much unpainted lead as painted figures. I at many times in my life have been able to confirm that I am afraid to say. I wish it was not true.

Murphy,

Really?! What were you were thinking?

Twilight Samurai04 Jun 2014 8:02 p.m. PST

I thought you were about to confess something best forgotten, then I remembered, this is The Miniatures Page, not People magazine.

This is broken down as follows:

That almost makes it sound reasonable…

badwargamer05 Jun 2014 4:55 a.m. PST

Your post has made me want to do the same with my 15mm lead mountain and so I have broken it down as follows.

I have lots :)

Augustus05 Jun 2014 6:36 a.m. PST

I'd need something stronger than that coffee/tea to get me through a count.

darthfozzywig05 Jun 2014 8:41 a.m. PST

I'd need something stronger than that coffee/tea to get me through a count.

Something that strong would simultaneously enable and disable your ability to count. :D

PatrickWR05 Jun 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

Ah, I see you got your wife flowers before inflicting your hobby on the dinner table. Good job!

BelgianRay05 Jun 2014 1:30 p.m. PST

I've been laughing to tears with the topic and the answers. Some of you can really cheer up my day.

Veni vidi ego pictis

jdpintex05 Jun 2014 4:00 p.m. PST

That was just plain wrong.

Now setting up a spreadsheet for your painted collection is a much better use of ones time. (My wife rolled her eyes when I started that little project)
