Midway, the greatest 5 minutes in naval history. Hail and honor those who conceived, fought and died for this victory. |

Time to go back and re-read my copy of Herman Wouk's War and Remembrance. He lists the names of the men in the torpedo squadrons that were wiped out, to a man. It is like reading the Iliad and the Catalog of ships, with the shaman chanting the names of the honored dead. I do not skip over the names, I read each one. I seem to remember that Morison did the same in his history of Midway. |

Even though it is a bit outdated, I still love Lord´s Incredible Victory. It was the first "grown up" history book I ever read. Shattered Sword was really amazing, but it doesn´t give me warm fuzzies like Lord´s work. And on topic, those were indeed some brave guys who went into that fight. |
