While the spelling is different, Al-Faw or Fao I am looking for a source for the image of the fort that was along the Shat Al Arab in 1914.

Thank you for your help.

I've found one reference to it in 1914 in Arabic, but no pictures. It sounds like the garrison wasn't there when the British attacked with Indian troops, holed the castle wall and captured it relatively easily. The vast majority of references coming up from a search in Arabic are on the Iran-Iraq War or WWII.

After a few more tries at getting an image, I'm coming up with nothing. Apparently there is a derelict mosque that is a tourist attraction by that name. Complicating matters is that Saddam had a palace in Baghdad named Al-Fao (this spelling is a direct transliteration of the Arabic name), and he may also have had a palace in Al-Fao (bizarre enough since it appears to be a sleepy little backwater no-wheres-ville). Sorry, but I got nothing.

Thank you. The palace came up often for me.
I am now checking with the IWM and the Dorset Regimental Museum.
Someone had to draw it or takea photograph.
