A bit of what I've been up to lately, as I get ready for the annual fleet review:

Over the winter I painted up some commissions for a friend. I talked about the Invincibles elsewhere on TMP. Counter to them are arrayed a pair of German armored cruisers:
Scharnhorst and Gneisenau.

My friend also requested the participants in the Battle of the River Plate. The order came out just a bit off, as one model shipped wrong. I'll leave it to you to guess which one, but they're close enough for gaming work.

Graf Spee

Exeter, Ajax, and Achilles provision.

I won't ever claim perfection, but one of these began as the wrong model, and I couldn't make myself cut it to pieces and start from scratch, so I basically built it as the wrong ship and slapped on the "Ersatz" nameplate of the desired ship. Can you tell which one? All of this is described in slightly more detail in Commissions for a New War, wherein the answer is revealed.

Slightly more recently, I built some industry for my harbor. (Some of which shows up in the pictures above.)

Again, there's more art and some how to in a post entitled Industrial Scale. Hope there's something interesting there for all.

Love that harbor…. I need details! :)

I talked about some of the structures in the blog post. Most are variations on a theme by balsa. The red building not described is a half complete cardstock experiment I've had sitting around as-is for a couple of years now. (The roof looks great. The rest is a little unsatisfactory.) The islands and mountains, also not described, are standard blue-foam gaming "hills" that I've assigned to new duties. (Take blue insulation foam. Carve into interesting shapes. Paint, and apply basing material; in this case playground sand.) There's in-progress photographs of several of the balsa structures on the blog that show you how I build them and painted them. Hope that answers some of your questions.

ed. There are also several 1/3000 Davco buildings and a few odds and ends parts scattered around.

This is a very nice project. I have some Langton ships, my only nautical sally, but have yet to paint one :-(

Thank you. As it happens, I have been tempted by the Langton miniatures. They're quite lovely. A friend has quite a number of them. But for present I have my hands full with WWII. Glad you liked it.
