I have sent the new version of Star Fleet Battle Manual off the the printers. Hopefully the test copies will be ready for Origins so that Lou Zocchi can look them over.

Outstanding! I used to play 1st edition fairly often. Great stuff.

Hopefully Lou will come to his senses about the pdf. He'll sell 10x the copies and I highly doubt the people who would be interested in it would pirate enough to make an impact. If he slapped it up on rpgnow work $14.99 USD or less it would sell very well.

I gladly pay $15 USD for the pdf. Since you have to buy the SSD's, I don't think pirated rules is really a problem.

Wow, I used to love that game, always enjoyed playing the Romulan warbird and trying to nuke the federation starships grin
I would definitely buy a copy, either pdf or hard copy. Good work Lordsith, hope it gets rewarded?

lordsith excellent stuff….I bought the 1st edition and read like a maths book but loved the game…3rd edition looks the business…will definitely buy

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll pass these comments on to Lou. I really don't know what he will be think next – we started out with PDF, then nothing, then I had permission to sell hard copies at any convention I demoed the game at, to now only hard copies from Gamescience – which means only at conventions he goes to since he doesn't have a website or use a computer.
Huscarle, the Romulans are my favorite too. One the major rule changes deals with the Roms; the original rules were a little vague on the plasma bolt and cloaking.

The 1st edtion was the my very first Wargame, and I have tons of good memories of playing the game. I would buy a copy just for that reason alone.

If he puts it out as a pdf he'll probably make more in the next 6 months than the rules have made over its publication history.

I see you say he wants to keep it cheap but doesn't want it pirated. If you price it right, the digital version will have a low incidence of pirating. It's been my experience that over priced electronic versions are what is pirated the most. The lower the price, the less it is worth someone's time and effort to pirate it. Keeping it cheap seems to go hand in hand with his desire to keep if from being pirated.

What a great idea!

Lordsith, will you be demoing at Origins this year?

lordsith05 Jun 2014 3:48 a.m. PST

Unfortunately I won't be running SFBM this year – daughter's wedding & college graduation, and too many other things are keeping me busy. I will be there only on Thursday to drop off the prototype to Lou. So if any of you are able to stop by the Gamescience booth (at Origins or GenCon), ask Lou about the game. People asking about it last year got him thinking that it might be time to publish an update. Maybe this year we can convince him to publish a PDF.

What will the Colonel be selling them for at Origins? I can't make it, but may be able to find someone else going.

I played it at the 1980 GenCon; I've GOT to stop playing in semi-serious tourney's when I'm not really sure how the rules go. ;->=

Lou will only have his old editions available at Origins (if he remembers to bring them – sometimes he forgets – and they sell for $12 USD). I will be giving him a test copy of the new edition for him to look at. It won't be the final copy since I had Lulu do it so the center spread with the plasma templates will probably be on different pages. But it will give him a chance to see it. I just got the shipping notice so I will be able to give him the copy on Thursday. So ask to see that if you happen to be at his booth.

Ah, then, still have my old copies, as well as Alien Space.

I shall wait patiently with the others for further developments.

Doug
