I somehow missed the existence of these non-Copplestone/Saleh sculpts until now, and when I emailed Northstar about my interest in acquiring a colonial Spanish army the respondent failed to mention them. Anyway, they're on sale this weekend along with the authentic 1672 range. Does anyone know how they compare? It's not easy to tell from the photos, but I get the impression they aren't quite as superlative. |

Correction: oddly, although the Spanish regiment pack is included in the sale, the individual packs in the Phoenix range don't appear to be. |

HM, Actually, there may be a bug or a human error. The Phoenix figures look like they are by the same sculptor, and the Spanish battalion shown is identical in the Northstar 1672 pack REGT5 and the Phoenix Spanish battalion PM2100, or at least the pictures are. I would contact Nick to see if the Phoenix figures should be on sale also. You might point out that the same battalion pack appears to be available for two different prices. Actually, the standard price is given as 25 pounds in the Phoenix list and 28.40 in the 1672 list. Also worth noting is the fact that the command packs are not discounted. Although the ordinary Spanish infantry aren't discounted, the regiment pack is reduced by 20%. FYI, I've done some calculations and the discount on ordinary infantry packs is about 20%, on regiment packs about 30%, and on army packs about 40%. Before the sale regiment packs were no cheaper per figure than ordinary packs; they were just a potentially more convenient mode of packaging. |
