I am looking for larger sized bases, Volley and Bayonet size (1" by 3" and 3" by 3") and am looking for an online retailer who a) makes these sizes, b) makes them in plywood/mdf, c) makes them about 1.0-1.5mm in thickness, and d) has the lowest price. I am aware of Litko and have ordered round bases from them many times, but to buy fifty 1.5" by 3" bases will run about $30.00 USD, and I am hoping to find something a bit less (or a lot less) in cost. Suggestions? I am in the States so would prefer to keep shipping costs low as well. |

Why don't you contact a local laser cutting/engraving company in your region. All you are looking for is square or rectangular bases so they should be able to pump them out cheaply. Failing that, have you tried a ruler, a sharp knife and basswood (not sure 1-1.5mm balsa would be sturdy enough)? |

I second the balsa idea.I did a project with 2mm thick balsa.Easy to work with and sturdy enough to survive inside house falls. |

Not balsa. Basswood. I like 3/32" for 25nn figures. |

The cheapest I've found is ¢69 vinyl tile. It's 3mm thick, has a nice weight and is easy to cut with a fine tooth saw or table saw. Comes in 12" x 12" peices so you can cut any size you'd like. |

MDF is 2mm or thicker so you'd need ply or basswood – both of which are likely to be costly, or at least more costly than MDF. |

Plastic sheet? Might be too flexible, though. |
